my mk1 cabby resto - build

hi all

on the 17th august i bought a 1982 golf cabby from evilbay. after being let down by someone who was going to fetch if for me i finaly got it home on the 4th september by a guy called barry who i found on ebay, he was happy to pay for the car so i had no worrys about it being stolen or not getting here.

(if you ever need a car moving from yorkshire let me know i will give you his number, great guy and seams to go out of his way to help)

when it arived it was the first time i saw it and i spotted a few bits i didnt know about but its a risk and have to realise this at the time.

the car has been partly stripped by the last owner so the fight is on to get all the bits again thats missing.

since getting the car i have taken off the karmann bumpers, sills and arches and started the rust repairs (most i didnt know where needed) i have made panels for the inner front wings cutting out the dammaged area and replacing to look factory, i have made a  repair to one sill and bottom of the a post on near side. the front lowwer panel has been repaired as didnt have much wrong with it.  the front wings had some rot on the lowwer inside mounting panel, they have been cut, sections  re-made and seam welded in place to look factory, it may sound a bodge but i dont like to just give up on factory panels and when i load photos you will see the great result and agree that the work ive done is to a good standard.

im hoping to start building the front back up over the weekend getting the wings and kit, and bumper back on. i will paint and protect all area now thats covered by the side skirts and arches as the car has rolled arches the kit is partly bonded on, the bumpers will come back off for paint tho.

will get some photos and post them up shortly

thanks

nathan
