My mk1 build thread, mk3 polo gt engine conversion

Hi this is first time ive put up my own proper post on this forum, seems like there are some knowledgable good guys on here, opposed to some forums being relatively crap!

This is my mk1 golf i got it middle of last year (ish). Have now decided that the engine id coming out. Leaking from EVERYWHERE!! its ready to come out(bar the gear linkages, forgot). A mk3 polo gt engine will be going back in. Plans are get it running, everything wired up, car back together, take head off, take it to get p+p, shrick 268 cam, valve stem oil seals etc etc (what ever else you would do? any ideas what else? Ti valves maybe), get that back on, as you can see got a 4-2-1 manifold to go on. GTI exhaust after that. Whilst the heads off gonna p+p and dewedge the thottle body, drill airbox k+n air filter etc. Cant remember what else yet.

Some pics so far.

Manifold, got it shot blasted and turns out it would make a better sieve than a zorst so gotta get that welded up.

some classy mods to the mani to so it would fit a g40 with a massive sump

mmmmmmmmmm.

One thing ive been researching and kind of have my heart set on is nitrous. Roundabout 500 squid to get basic kit. 50 bhp shot is aparently safe, i was talking to a guy on clubpolo who ran it on his polo for a while, until he did an uncontrolled 80bhp shot and blew something up. Basically if i get a grant for uni then the sensible option is a laptop, fun option is nitrous. Probably be that latter. But does anyone know about supercharging or turboing it? Will i get much better performance, reliablility, economy from anything else for 500.

I cant wait to get it back out on the road, miss how it handles, as you can see my loon doesnt really compare.

There probably isnt going to a huge amount of progress straight away, im waiting to get paid and buy a crane (engine crane if your wondering) and then im on holiday but after that ill be straight back on it.

Im 19 and this is the biggest thing ive done to a car yet, but my knowledge and selection of tools are growing, im also going to uni to study motorsport technology so i should have some more in depth know-how in a few years. I hope at least.

Comments are wanted and welcome.

Cheers,

Dom
