My Mars Red 83 gti
Here goes,
Ive had the car about a year and a half, its never been road worthy since i got it and i planned to get it back on the road.
With the promise of free welding work i packed off the golf to a guy, 8 months later he hadnt had time to do the work - somebody happened to go into his work shop and felt sorry for the car and done the work for us (had to pay)
Both rear arches were shot and i had replacements which he welded on - rear valence also shot and i had replacement. Front wings i changed myself and now it appears that the car is rust free bar the sun roof area.
Inner wings
Im very fond of the golf gti as it reminds me when i was younger tearing around in various hot hatches - i had to sell my impreza a few months back and now i long for something interesting to drive.

Thanks for the comments, it was so nice to get the car back after all that time. The rest of The car is solid, one of the seals was repaired together wiv small hole in boot.
Finally got the car running yesterday after a battery charge and Some fresh fuel, its run like a pig and I cleaned the spark plugs which were seriously sooted up. Car still miss fires massively and idles poor and having red the injection guide I reckon its running too rich and ill turn down the mix see if it helps.
Might have to take you up on the help part if i can't get her running. Also not sure how to tackle sun roof rust ?

Spent the morning on the golf, ripped out the torn headliner ready for the welder to patch up the front of the sunroof drain areas where alll the nasty rust is only to find more rust in the back water drainage area…
The pipes were blocked but i managed to save them - more welding for mr sunroof it is then.
Is the whole design a poor one as i gather its a common problem….. oh well.

Update after a long time due to my mate lost all interest in our project - cut long story short sombody else is more interested and has taken over - hes got contatcs in motorsport and can get some good jobs done like a re-work of the cylinder head..
Had to take it off first - never have done anything like this but it went very well

Yeah, been depressing if I'm honest - took it on with one mate, fell out and was in limbo for a long while - an old uni mate was interested and we have taken it on
Getting there but time is hard to throw at it plus £££ - paint shops are horrendous ……
Be amazing once it's finished…. Not sure when it would b but we are on the right path.
