My little green machine - caddy project

Morning guys. Thought I would get a build thread going on my 1.6 caddy. 

Some of you have seen this rolling around the bristol area for the past year but unfortunatly earlier this year while coming back from a customers house something went bang and I had to get toed back home by the aa… 

The caddy sat on my drive for a few months while I was working out weather to sell it or work on it. But after much convincing from the missus and a few people from the forum I have decided to work on it  

Ill start from the begnning… 

I bought this little 1.6 caddy off a customer from work. After he pestered me to buy it for literally months. Eventually I got a credit card out and took the plunge. It had a respray in green (badly done) but apart from that it was standard. It was solid and all together, with a little bit of work it flew through the mot with only one advisory for slight rusting underneath the bed. 



Once it was running I got hold of a set of cool overs, flipped the axel and sat it on streched mini lites. 
This was it at it's hay day…



This was pretty much how it stayed till it blew up  

After this weekend I have discovered it put a con rod through the front and back of the block… So the engines a goner. 








Engine now out, I'm going to clean the bay up, get it sprayed a nice colour and find an engine for it… I'm thinking about going for a 1.8 8v on the 4 speed box. Should give me low end poke around town

Anyone know of a 1.8 engine? Pref on carb

I can't wait! I'm picking up a 1.8 8v with twin webbers on Sunday. Tuesday I'm going to start to get the bay ready.

The engine looks good but I might send a few bits off to get powder coated etc so when it goes in it's in tip top shape. 

At this rate you might even see me before the end of the year rich

Stuff making the engine looks pretty just leave the bonnet closed so no one can see that way you could be driving it next week lol!!!

Lol I wish but the engine looks amazing!

Today I started on te engine bay… And finished it in one go lol! 

I was a busy boy so only got a before and after photo…

Iv now put the new loom in. So all I need to do now is clean up the gear box, spray it, then put it into the caddy then work my way across the body work… 


So I have everything but the exhaust and a set of tyres

I'm working on it on say mate if you wanna pop by. 

I'm fitting the engine in  

Gear box is done. And bolted onto the block. So all I gotta do now is for it all together

Can't wait! Gotta put the fuel pump and all the gubbings in yet so might be a few days off yet… We will see how far I get Saturday
