My initiation the VW world

OK so looks like i have a minor project on my hands so thought i would start a thread from day one to tel my story :)

So i p/x'd my Skyline for this  - saw the pics the guy sent me and knew i wanted it…

So today i set forth with the task of getting it up to my secret weekend garage and having a proper look over it and giving her a basic service, plugs, leads, dizzy cap and rotor arm, oil + filter, flush the rusty coloured coolant out and replace with nice new green stuff and finally a new air filter.
First off when i was inside and out of the rain i took the hood down and took a few  pics as the ones i had were quite crap..

First problem - car doesn't have a jack - so i found a suitable substitute…

Next had a good look around underneath with my fingers crossed hoping not to find any horrors…

All looks good so far, no signs of rusting down the sills and quite a few new parts visible - sump, driver side lower wishbone type thing, discs and pads and full exhaust - this has been poorly fitted by someone and front pipe to rear section is loose and held to gether with a bent bracket and has fallen of a broken rubber hanger causing a knocking vibration against the ARB…

Will be a nice easy fix though :)

Had a look at the new coilovers and they are as i suspected - wound up to the max - which explains why it bounces around so much - will need to wind them down a bit in the near future.

Just as soon as i can find the key for the centre caps of the wheels! The lad i bought it from is trying to chase up the previous owner to see if it can be found but i dont hold out much hope so if anyone has a key that fits this then let me know, they are borbets…

So i carry on with my servicing until i at last come to airfilter when i notice that the carb is flopping around with the airbox!!!  See my other thread in big block carb engines section  - that is where my day ended!

Cheers, is pretty clean but showing a few signs of neglect in recent years. There is some evidence of respraying on the front end and discovered that the front of the drivers side wing is almost rusted away to nothing but that is all the rust i have found so far so not too unhappy.

Yeah, looks like a kwik fit job to me!

Had hoped that i would be able to use those to remove them but never got a chance after the carb disaster :( Do you know if you can buy new keys from anywhere?

i think you will find that all the keys are a little different,

Best bet is remove thm, throw them in the bin and put a nice stainless cap head bolt in there.

But how do i remove them!! Been out with some specially modified pliers but they are on solid :( dont really want to have to drill them out for fear of damaging the caps - seen a new set on ebay goes for ?95  8O

Hey Darth,
Liking the cabby - are you in Portlethen by any chance? I noticed the Roemex Chemicals stuff all over the shop. If you are at Roemex, I used to work next door at Bluewater up to the start of the year. You may have spotted my black Sportline with red roof passing quite a lot last summer.

Good luck with gettin they centre caps aff!!

Cheers,
Chris

w00t! Borbet centre cap locking nuts are made of some kind of high tensile chocolate! 10 mins with the drill and they are all out  :)
