My Caddy Resto.

My Caddy Resto.

I have recently moved house and needed something practical for kitchens, gardens etc etc so bought myself the caddy which was suppose to be a run around with a plan to tidy in the future…… oh how things changed quickly.

After killing a wheel bearing I stripped it all down to discover that them rusty patches where worse than appeared  :banghead:

At the beginning……

Shotblasted and seam welded wishpans…

All the welding repairs are almost done now, all I need to do now is fit a new pair of sills.

Its not all doom and gloom though  8)

I've had these in my loft for years  :P

and the rolling stock

Not sure if I'm keeping the wheels yet so if anyones interested in them I might be willing to part with them  :)  I have decided that its going to be best to upgrade the brakes when the engine is transplanted and I have a pair of original Audi quattro callipers ready to go on which of course I cant do with the 13" rims

I bought the seats at a show about 4-5 years back for silly monet to stick in the mk1 I had at the time, only I ended up selling the car on before they were fitted and stuck them in the loft. No idea what make they are as theres no markings on them, I think they have come out of an old Beetle there not like modern bucket seats there big heavy and comfy   at least I have a diesel with torque to pull them about

Thanks,

No the rears are actually 13x9.5  8)  super rare over here as I have never seen another set this wide

Caddys going to be completed at the end of the month, sorry needs to be completed as I have need for it  :)  I have put a sorn on it for this month its a bit of a never ending circle for me at the moment I need to finnish building my garage at home (caddys currently at my dads) so I can get it in and paint it BUT…. I need the caddy to finnish the garage  :dontknow: cause after all thats one of the reasons I originally bought it.

So basically I have a pair of sills on order (if they ever turn up   ) which will be fitted hopefully this weekend failing that the next, then I'm going to stick it all in primer and put it back on the road for the time being so I can use it to finnish my garage, garden and driveways then once thats done it'll be stripped (*again*) prepped and painted.

So I have till the end of the month to seam seal it all, shultz, prime, sound deadening, carpets, seats. Then it'll just be ratty for a couple of months  8)

Still need to find a pair of doors though   or at the very least a drivers door because mine is knackered.

Just checked and my front ones are 13x7's

I imported these from Germany, cost me a fortune but they are worth it.

Just a shame I may not get to use them myself, I have had someone on MSN tonight who really want them off me for there mk1.

Lots of arch mods me thinks though, cause I intend on pulling mine a fair bit.

yep loads of arch mods! but if you can do it yourself then go for it…i wish i cud run 16x9's on mine i think its the ultimate rim size, look so Gangsta on mk2's  8) but a few people who i've spoke to said you wud need MAJOUR inner arch grind'idge

neway what colour you thinking of spraying it?

No idea on colours as of yet :dontknow:
, I am pretty stuck with the blue on the seats so I guess its going to have to be something to match them.

Although I could sell the seats on and get something else, I have a Corrado back bench in the Rallye and have also thought about fitting that across the front, only problem in doing this is that I would loose access to the rear of the seats. (hhmm… although I could make the seats to recline…… going away plot   )

I have considered two tones then slapped myself   its going to be a while off yet till I have to made a solid decision.

All recomendations and suggestions welcome  :P

Heres my two favorite caddys for inspiration, at least if I copied there paint scemes there foreign caddys and its very unlikely I would ever be parked next to them

Somehow though I dont think they'l go with blue seats

choosing the colour is the hardest thing to do..when i had mine re-sprayed i had a choice vw reflex silver, black, tornado red or mars red. It was a hard choice as at the time these were my fav colours. In the end i went with mars red as thats what the car orginaly was...but i always think when im looking at it...What if?.....

Heres another of my fav's too, hate black cars but this just works so well even the arch trims which would be simply shocking on anything else  :banghead:

Sorry i'll stop now this is all suppose to be about my own caddy

Well first time i've touched the caddy in just over two weeks thanks to the weather, tonight started removing the drivers side sill section. Not as bad underneath as I thought although it had split away right down the length of the rear floor pan  :banghead:

You can just make out where its torn right down the inner length, and you can see where I have plated it from above.

Hopfully be fitting the new one tommorow
