MK1 Restoration-any ideas?

Hi
I'm new to this site and would just really like some general help/info. I asked my boyfriend this morning what he wants for his birthday and he said a MK1 golf to restore. I just laughed as we dont have a garage or anything and didnt think anymore of it. Well a couple of hours later i phoned my mum and she said guess what, (Ruby-her mk1 Cabriolet)has packed up so we're sending her to the scrap yard! I was quite schocked but also relived as this solves the whole finding my boyfriend a present situation! So the car remains at my mums house, looking rather sad! The problem is we live on the Isle of Wight and getting hold of parts for restoration probably isnt going to be easy. Are there any good places that will mail order, easy to deal with etc. And also any good sites for general ideas. The whole plan is to completly restore the car and keep as standard/original as possible! Any ideas?
Many Thanks
Tahnee  :D

Most of the bigger parts suppliers do mail order. You would probably have to find a local supplier for things like panels, etc if you needed those. Also, is there a VW Dealer on the island? I guess if you organised yourself quite well, you could stockpile parts before you needed them and make, say, monthly trips to Portsmouth or further afield to pick them up from suppliers, etc.

Hi and welcome to the site. Your local VW dealer is Esplanade VW, I recently had to deal with them - very helpful… http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/retailers/retailer?dealer_no=376

Also these lot all do mail order and should be able to provide a lot of what is needeed. Crazyquiff posts on this forum and also has a lot of 2nd hand parts.
