Mk1 Project.. blank canvas, rolling shell, need advice!!
Just viewed a mk1 rolling shell (pics will follow) absolutley amazing, couldnt be more excited about it, almost completely rust free and looking reasonably straight from what ive seen..
Now to my problems, My main idea is maybe a lttle bit of a cliche but i really wanna make a raod legal track car, standard thoughts as far as stripping the entire car back to bare bones, treat any rust then paint the whole lot. Once its sitting in a totally immaculate condition im hoping to have a roll cage fitted (no back seats obviously) a couple of comfy bucket seats and the racing look anywhere possible as far as dash and dials go. anyway all of that is irrelevant as im nowhere near this stage..
i need ideas as far as engines go, (im not the most mechanically gifted person so something rasonable to fit and maintain) any thoughts on brakes (all aspects and components) exhaust system, clutch, gearbox, wheels and any advice anyone has will be greatly appreciated..
i am going to view it again in the next few days, i will get as many pics as i can and hopefully document the entire build..
the main aim is to have a mint (custom) mk1 that looks evil but works as an everyday driver with a full documented build/restoration spec list!
cheerz! (pics will be up soon)

Thats the golf in the garage and work has well and truely started, the front end is already stripped back to the shell, interior completely stripped out, tailgate is off and all bumpers and trim off. Engine is currently getting a facelift/tidy and i am in the process of preparing the engine bay for painting. Once painted the work can really begin with the engine going in, new brakes, brake lines new servo, master cylinder and loadz more polished up bits and bobs returning into the engine bay.
All is going well so far, ill try post a couple pics to show my progress
