Mk1 GTi Cabriolet

I picked up my first Mk1 today, a 1987 white Gti. It's a little rough around the edges but it's sound and the engine is sweet despite having 111k . No MOT/tax and it will be my wifes daily driver so there's a bit of work to do but I'm really chuffed with it!!

Flat battery so it needed a tow home so a chap I know from the T4 forum kindly lent his services, van and towing dolly:

Needs a bath:

After a quick wash:

I'll update the thread as things develop!

That doesn't look too bad at all ;) Decent of your mate to loan the van and trailer

Made a bit of progress on the Golf…

Yesterday - back seat base out and washed, starting to look better.
Today - new plugs, dizzy cap, rotor arm, battery got deep cycle charged, old stereo out, drivers seat out, K&N panel filter cleaned and re-oiled.Think a new throttle cable is needed as I'm reaching the adjustment limit trying to a get steady idle.

Started to clean up the drivers seat so the re-trim chap has at least a chance of matching the colour as opposed to 24 year old grime colour…

When it's repaired I'll post the results.

That looks really nice mate.

Great job on the seat.

All you need now is the summer and you can really enjoy it.

Cheers fella…before summer, I've got to put it back together as I've been taking bits off to see what's underneath!

Ventured into the garage today for the first time in a while, was pleasantly suprised to remember I have a Mk1 golf gti convertible in there! Doubly surprised as I have new wheels to fit so I did that… Old 15" were knackered with bald tyres so the refurbed OEM 14" jobbies went on.

Well after a year of ownership, it found a new home today:

I'm sure it'll be looked after.

On the trailer on route home. The lads were laughing at me for checking every five minutes that it was still there!

Snugged in on the drive, land rover kicked onto the road, in full view from the living room to make sure no1 touches it! :) cannot wait to get going in it!!

Glad its found a new home where it'll be used! Your chauffeur certainly strapped it to the trailer well enough, but it looked tiny behind the landy!
