Mk1 golf cabriolet work begins

So after deliberation of wether or not to sell we decided that he's gonna stay!!! so  I thought I would make a start on a few of the things that needed sorting out and some other things that I liked the look of……….

Here's what he did look like…..

And here's what's been done in the last couple of days…..

I decided to remove the side strips and smooth the recess, I'm thinking of going for the euro look , smooth and low and the old less is more. Let me know what you think…..

I think your going to regret trying to smooth the sides as they are near impossable to get looking right and will make selling it hard.

I removed the black panel and smoothed the holes where the badges used to be, cleaned it all up and gave it a fresh lick of paint! Looks loads better I thought. Taking the panel off is really easy, it's just five plastic rivet cups and the panel comes off. If your bootlid is in good nick then just clean it and put some rubber gromets in the two holes you find beneath the number plate and refit your number plate. Simples!!

Patience makes for perfection my friend. I'm in no rush to get it finished so I'm gonna spend the time to get it right. I agree that done wrong it can look awful, but that's not my intention.
