MK1 Campain GX 1.5 AUTO / One off . Value?????

hi there,

I have recently acquired a 1983 A reg Mk1 golf 1.5 GX AUTO
after 3 years of asking an old boy at work
Then when i opened the folder i found the following details :

78.000 miles
2 owners (Mother then son)
Full service history
Spotless Interior
Campaign model
it has the Sports seats, Twin headlight arrangement, larger front spoiler etc

It includes a headed letter from Personal Export Sales V.A.G (united kingdom) limited containing the following:

"The Golf GX Automatic is not being imported for general tax paid sales, because the factory could not off enough supply, you will find that dealers are offering GL auto's alongside GX manuals, this does not give you a problem, merely the advantage of probably being the only GX Auto owner in the british isles . . . . . . . . . can you remember the car was an Export Demonstrator that you bought from me, Demonstrator is the key work in this statement, because the Export division is not supposed to supply tax paid cars, however the rule is acceptably waived when dealing with personal friends and relations"
(31st August 1983)

Please note i have removed the silver trim so i could clean behind!!

i have no idea of its value, even before i restore it completely any ideas??

Thanks for looking and please message me with any comments and interest

Its worth no more than any other auto Mk1 Golf hatchback. The fact that its a one off is meaningless, after all its just a variation on trim and gearbox, its not like it had some special feature like, for example, the G60 limited. (It had a G60 16V engine). There is a price guide on the home page of this website and it shouldn't be too far out.

Nout wrong with GXs, or autos, just that you shouldn't seek any extra value from the combination of the two!

No, a standard auto Golf is very similar. I think all autos (except your unique one, of course….) were GL models anyway. Certainly they all had the 1.5 (or 1.6 or 1.8 for cabby) engine, they never did a 1.1 or 1.3 auto.

If you look at the differences between GL and GX, they're very similar, its only the trim and steering wheel different???
