mk1 caddy 1.8 16v kr conversion with R1 carbs

hey all newbie here

I'm after some info ive bought an 88 1.6 petrol caddy pickup with the sole purpose to do an engine conversion
ive bought the 1.8 16v kr engine and box from a j plate mk2 gti with 119k
also bought a set of R1 carbs and a fuel pump off the same bike, just debating whether to get my inlet manifold from bogg bros or fab my own!

wot it is ive been told i will need the kr ecu and engine loom to control the spark yet the guy who i bought the engine off,who has done a few conversions told me i dont need them as the transformer, coil and dizzy should do……….is he right…….i dont kno lol  :dontknow:  :dontknow:

any advice wud be appreciated

the kr ecu controls the dizzy advance and retard. you would probly get it started without an ecu but it would run like a total dog. you need the ecu and the wireing that goes with it.
im just about to finish putting a 16v kr lump on bike carbs in my mk1.
