Mk1 cabby progress !

Post

At last new roof on ,

It's been a while since I posted on here after I first got the project so here goes with the progress this week .
when I got the golf it came with a rather shabby roof so I've spent the last month looking for a replacement ..
trying to find one in good nick and not miles away and not for silly money was proving rather difficult !!!:ocf_emoticons__BangHead:so when I went to VW festival the other weekend and found this beauty in the auto jumble area I snapped it up (after a fair bit of haggling)

the old roof was black so was a bit unsure about the grey but now it's on I love it and think it adds something different to the car (never seen grey on white before)

so guys what do you think ????

Now I just need one handle (the locking one ) and the tension wire around the back !

The old roof is on eBay as I write this but not getting mush interest ! Is it worth anything ???
hope you like the car

What are you jacking the car up on? looks a strange place to be putting a trolly jack….
Best place I've found to jack the car up as nice and strong.

1988 Mk1 Golf GTi Cabriolet 1.8cc DX, K-jet. Daily drive. 317,000 miles and counting
1978 Mk1 Scirocco GLS 1.6cc FR, Webber carb. Weekend toy.

So just a little update …..
So because I wanted to learn about engines I got one of these……
sorry bout the crappy iphone pics !!

1.8 16v kr

its siezed :'(:dry: But that's why it was only £20!!!
But I wanted a project and to teach myself about engines
and maybe one day it could go in the cabby:ocf_emoticons__BangHead:So started stripping it down

pitons 1 and 4 were seized badly and valves were corroded

after lots and lots of banging and swearing I finally freed the pistonsO_o

so the plan is to clean everything up ,port and polish the head and I'm also thinking about going down the bike carb route !!!
anybody got any words of wisdom :$Or maybe a manifold for r1 carbs ;)

I'm going down the bike carb route, got some from a zx9r. Bogg brothers is about 20 miles from my house, which is very handy

Plenty of other people done this route before, so lots of info to glean.

Got any pics or build threads ??
Heard great things about bogg brothers are they expensive ?

Got a build thread, search for "shellby", but haven't got onto the engine part yet.

I think the bogg brothers manifolds are a tad pricey, but I've rung them to talk about doing the conversion, and they were massively helpful and friendly.
