Mk1 Build No 2

Well ever since the restoration of my mk1 my Dad wanted his own to restore and it didnt take long to find one. Hes not too good with computers so I will be posting as we go along. Its a golf C which has had a 1.8 scirocco engine in it. So far it seems very solid Hopefully it wont need anywhere near as much welding as mine did! Well here it is

-80mm lowering springs on the back and no engine =

Dont worry, the tints will be coming off!

Back panel and where the quarters meet is solid

It had gti arch spats on it as you can see. We will need to sand the arches down and see whats what but we think they are in pretty good nick under the cataloy.

Filler area looks fine but it will need a new neck

Its had a new front panel

We will hopefully get a better look at all the rust prone areas next week so we can see just how much work needs done but so far it looks promissing. On the hunt for parts now. Here we go again

It will be getting resprayed and after a lot of though I think hes going for white with chrome bumpers.  Just realised thats the same colour scheme as the banner I made at the top! ^

So it will look a bit like that unless he changes his mind again. He went from miami blue to yellow, to black and now white!

Well, today is the first day i have managed to start work on this. My Dad wants to get it MOT'd before the respray so Im spraying the bay ready for the 1.8 to go in. the rest will be sprayed professionally.

I took off the wings to see if there was any rust hiding.

The only rust I found was a tiny pin size hole at the bottom of the n/s a-pillar

And only a few tiny spots of surface rust so were well chuffed. We will have to strip all that thick underseal off to see if theres anything hiding under that but it looks promissing so far :)  If you saw the inner wings on my car when I got it you will see that these look a hundred times better. Its only 2 years younger than mine..

Stripped all the loom etc out of the bay and started rubbing down the old paint and surface rust. I treated the bare metal with hammerite anti-rust paint.

First coat of primer

Still a lot of rubbing down and filler work needed but atleast we are getting somewhere now.

If its a good day tomorrow I'll get the servo, brake linkage and steering rack off to paint the bulkhead.

You may have guessed it will be getting sprayed white. :)

Yeah I think it will look great when finished. Hes going for black series 1 bumpers and single light GTI red trim grille. He bought some 13's for it too.

If anyone has a GTI grille let me know.
