mk1 16v conversion,mot'd and running in

picked up my new mk1 golf on thursday,188,000mile lhasa green 1.1 4 speeder, its been fitted with a 1.3 at some point and on delving through the paperwork i got with it it jumped from 41,000 in 2005 up to 188,000 now so i reckon its had the revcounter dash fitted with no attempt at getting one close to the proper mileage, several other mots back up this theory with a 6year gap in mots with 3,000 miles inbetween so it looks like i lucked out a bit  :D

anyway couple of pics after id picked it up and gave it a wash

dodgy stuck on aerial

now removed

took it round to my garage and swapped the wheels and suspension over from my jetta inc. the bonrath top mounts. Discovered the suspension we were removing was spax -40s so bit of a bonus, got replaced by chassis dynamics -50s and boge turbo gas shocks

but its still sitting very high so im on the lookout for second hand coilovers for it

i talked the owner down to 650(real short mot and tax)knocked 50 quid off it and we were both well happy but probably more me than him lol,id been looking for a cheap mk2 1.3 to run about with till the jettas done then this came up. Had to be a 1.1-1.3 so that i can pass it on to my lil sis whose just started her lessons :D  she seems over the moon with her car to be so far

as for the wheels theyre just the way i bought them so far but theyll be getting a proper polish and probably a lick of paint in another colour(probs more than once lol)when i can get around to it

Well you definitely got him down to good price. Where are all you boys finding these extremely good condition 1.11.3's for so cheap. If you spot one around that price, in similar condition and you dont want it yourself give me a shout!

tallpete lmao, ive pushed my plates up like that on every mk1 goof ive ever had, been doing it for a dozen years and im not stopping now lol

as for non-lhasa 1.1s all i can say is its down as a 1.1 in the logbook, the car has no gls trim and afaik arent gls's 1.5s?all the ones ive had have been

as a total bonus my sister being essentially a female has decided to change her mind again(mk6 polo,mk2 golf,mk1 golf mk9?polo),now shes set on her original choice of a 1.3 mk6 three door polo shes going to harlequin????(only available in 5drs) which means ive got myself a minted 3dr non s/r shell to play with because theres no chance ill run it as a 1.3 for long pmsl

funk star theyre OZ splits of the same era as turbo's but they werent as popular and are hence a bit rarer(i only know of two sets in the uk)

cheers fleming,i like it too but i prefer it when its running, its currently getting a heart and lungs transplant which is proving problematic, going for the worlds longest 16v transplant lol.

took the opportunity of the engine being out to give it a good paint, started off(like most things)as just a little clean

used a hammer and screwdriver all over the block to de-scale it
