Mars red campaign soon completed (large pictures)

Thought I?d share some of my progress on a GTI Campaign that is undergoing restoration. Bought it when I needed new frontwings for another resto project. Found out that this car was in MUCH better condition. Paid the seller the 1000 SEK (about 100? or 75?) and pushed it up on the trailer and drove home. The car had no engine or gearbox, nor any interior (was an aborted race car project) but a rollcage was at least included :). First wash when I got it home:

The other resto project got stripped and then I sold the shell.

Wheels that have been on the car :D:

Left to take care of, is getting the engine startning properly. Now it just ignites for a few seconds and then dies. I reckon that it still is low on fuel even though I poored down 5 litres. The car is tilted quite a bit on the jack stands (if that is what the metal thingys are called :) that keeps the car in the air without its wheels). Then the brakes needs bleeding and meanwhile I have to decide how much of the interior that will find its way back in the car.

The dream is to be done for a major VW meet (Bug Run) in the middle of june… but I reckon the time wont be enough to make ?til then. :(

That engine bay shot looks very clean! Good find!

Neat work on the arch repair too - don't let the moisture at it though! :D have you it painted now?

Paint

Yep everything is painted. Well there are some minor stone chips that needs to be sorted.

Last evening I poored some more gas in the tank and voil? the engine fired up :D. Although there is no idle, and major misfires at low rpm, but it runs fine on higher rpm's. Perhaps the engine did not get properly aligned (if that is the correct term) :dontknow:?  Anyway I?ll continue my search this evening.

Some new photos from yesterday.

Your able to drill 9 x 100 on mk1 hubs meaning you have the option of both 5 and 4 x 100.  Hope that helps
