Advice: prepair yourself for an expensive ride!

Atleast the back end of the car looks solid from the photos :)

What are your plans?

I remember you asked about wings on my project thread, i see why now! But anothere member posted an interesting comment on page 3 of my thread about making pattern wings fit better, maybe of interest to you when you come to get some, if you find you got crap ones like me! Haha

Good luck with it :)

Rich

Yes I read that yesterday on your thread about the wings and going to order some on Monday and maybe a front panel

The plans is a almost standard restoration maybe some more modern light units. I will be getting the bodywork done first and remove engine before it goes to spray shop giving it a good going over while car is away.

She is going to be used when done just well looked after,
With ongoing smaller work after that ( suspension, etc)
thank lee ;)

Started to strip engine ready for removal before borrowing an engine lift and a mate to give a hand.

One thing we should have done was attach the lift on the far left of engine so the gearbox would hang down at an angle and make it easier to get out of the engine bay.

Got both front wings and a full front panel from a place in Leeds had a quick test fit of wings they look a lot better than I was expecting, may just need a little off inner edge to line up with door perfectly but not much. Not sure about front panel yet (fingers crossed).

Good work

I took a bit off the inner edge of the mount piece and also ground the tacks off, releasing it from the wing and adjusted it until it fitted nicely and re-tacked it. I had to cut a bit out of the top to get it to line up nicely around the bottom of windscreen also.

Let us know how you get on :)

I'm no good at welding so will be getting a mate to do it for me before tacking it to body shop for painting.
Once the holes in inner wing and front panel is fitted ill fit the wings again and adjust them, thanx for advice ill let you know.

Today a friend of mine ( the same one that helped me get the engine out ) took Rosie to garage for the welding doing, it's not what you know but who you know  :D

Didn't get a shot of her on the truck as someone phoned me while she getting loaded up.

Not sure how long she will be away as being done In between jobs, so whilst garage is empty I made a start on the engine

Tried to keep parts of a similar theme together
E.g manifolds, cooling etc

Made a list of things I need to recon the engine

Gasket set ; sump
                   Head
                   Rocker etc

Gasket sealer

Crankshaft seal ; front
                         Back

Water pump
Spark plugs
Oil
Oil filter
All new water hoses
Jubilee clips
Thermostat
Both coolant housings
Core plugs 5
Anti freeze
Fuel filter ( have already )
Air filter
V belt
Timing belt kit
New clutch kit ( have already )
New head bolts

I'm not sure on wether to remove the head or not !!!!!!!!

If I do then I may as well get it a pro refurb.
But a mechanic friend of mine thinks if it ain't broke then don't fix it
I'm not too sure at the moment  :dontknow:

Spent some time getting the worst gunk and grease off the engine and gearbox

Untitled by ken 11 12, on Flickr

Also took me a good hour hard labour getting the 3 broken studs out from the top coolant flange, a little heat and a good pair of mole grips.   :D

Getting on really quickly with the project mate, well done!

Been given any ideas on the time scale for welding?

No rich I haven't, but I'm not too concerned yet because I'm still busy with engine and gearbox and its nice with all the space in my garage.

hi mate head is a easy job if you take it off the head will need a skim £25 and they will clean it in  a dishwasher not the home type and mine looked new when I got it back, you could change the stem valve as well.

The engine is back together all painted up with new gaskets, timing belt etc just need a new water pipe from pump to block and oil filter.

Untitled by ken 11 12, on Flickr

I used vht high temp paint aluminium and black, but the black was matt looks ok on block but got some normal gloss black for rocker and sump.

Also Rosie is back from welding with new front panel

Went to see a man who can about the paint job he has even lent me a air sander with pads to rub the engine bay down and will then lend me one of his paint guns so I can paint the bay put engine back in then take it to him for the full respray.

So that's now the new plan
Remove front suspension and brake servo etc
Clean and refurb parts
Sand engine bay
Clean and stone chip inner wings
Paint engine bay
Refit engine etc
Take for full respray

Started removing the black wax oil from inner wings today glad ill only be doing this once :(

I haven't done anything with the wings yet one is still a little out I'm going to let the body shop sort them out I think.

Ahh fair enough!

Ive still just got one sitting on the car and the other off, until ive got the engine in as then i'll be hiding the wiring behind the wing.

Keep at it and good luck :)
