Teledials returned to my mate for him to sell and 13" steels now on thanks to charliesays for that bargain
Tailgate off and ready for the scrap yard as its rotten.
Tailgate glass and windscreen out. This means that ive now been able to check the bottom of the windscreen where there was some bubble rust. This parts fine but elsewhere where it looked ok, its crumbled :dontknow:
Driveshafts off so get access to exhaust manifold bolts. Think theres two more where i cant access so might end up just cutting the manifold downpipe to get engine out.
Still debating whether to strip down to metal myself or get father in laws mate to shot blast the lot with (walnut shells) apparently good for getting the crap and old paint off without dimpling the metal.

My mate who I bought her off came around yesterday so we took the fuel tank off and the rear axle whilst we were at it.
Had to taake this out in one as the bolts for the lower suspension strut wouldn't move
Now to do some research on brake conversions as I want discs on the rear but not fully sure on whats required. SO I'll be leaving the beam as is until then

I wouldn't bother with discs on the rear unless your sticking a different engine in it. :dontknow: If you do you'll need the set up off a Mk2 16V and scirocco 16v handbrake cables (GSF sell em).
I know what you mean about being de-moralised by a car in bits, try focus on sorting one bit at a time though and it'll feel like your making progress.

Engine wise after long deliberation, I'm going for a 1.8T. I know its done plenty but I had chance of a VR6 which was going cheap but i think would ruin the handling. If I went down the 16v route then I'd get similar power to the 1.8t standard but not as much fun in the power.
So because of the engine and a strong self preservation instinct Im going to do the brakes. Ive done some searching but theres no conversion guides out there so I'll hold off recon'ing the rear beam until i buy the parts and see whats required on the beam and what isnt.
The sticker wing was a marmite thing and the car belonged to my mate when it was like this. Querky like him!
Im off to VW Festival this year but I think it'll be many years before my motor gets there

However, the cars totally stripped now, only paint left on it.
Tailgates come back smoothed, primed and looking rather sensual :-)
Doors and bonnet have been taken away to be fettled. Having the door strip fixing holes filled but maintaining the channel running the length on the car. Was going to have A4 style handles but decided to stick with the original The Jetta coupe on recent golf mag has really inspired me to keep a more original look
Daily Focus sold to pay for the Mk1 in the first place.
Bought a B5 A4 TDi for my new daily. £700 bargain I thought then it cost me £500 to get in a safe condition. Never buying off ebay again!
Mechanic I know has offered me a VR for £450 so that will be another big outlay again delaying work on the mk1
