How to restore you plastic bumpers and arches.....

Hey guys and girls, i got this tip from kuc on here, he has done this and they look good on his red gti. so anyway i had a go, and they came up very nice and look good……

started with arches, as you can see they have gone grey,

so firstly clean them up with halfords bumper preperation (£5.39 bottle)

then get a arch ready to spray

i would use a mask but i didnt have one so………

iv used halfords plastic bumper paint in black (£5.89 bottle) only one bottle was used for the arches

so start spraying………… :detective:

and the results:

the difference:

cheers
ans4r

I used the same stuff. It looks really good but after a few months it starts to chip off where stones come up from the tyres.

Still worth it though as my bumpers were really faded and I still have left over paint to touch it up

Hey guys you never tried penut butter? even cheapo morrisons stuff works a treat on faded grey plastics. Use crunchy stuff then wash and then smooth stuff :P

did you do the bumpers in the end? I need to do my arches and bumpers as they look crap!

I want to know if it will chip off like normal spray? I don't want to be driving around in a flakie looking chav wagon!

has yous stayed on ok? :dontknow:

I have the spray from Halfords waiting but I don't want to put it on if it will be a pain later.

I would recommend this stuff

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Plasticare-Trim-Dye-BLACK-Plastic-Rubber-Bumper-Paint_W0QQitemZ260655185091QQihZ016QQcategoryZ72203QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It looks like a small bottle, but it goes a long way.
It lasts ages aswell, because it dyes the plastic.

Lighty go over them with a gas blow tourch works well then back to black... We used to do this at a body shop i worked at .

Surly if you start doing the bumpers with peanut butter won't it attract the dogs to lick them and then before they leave piss on your wheels ?

it's expensive really isn't it?!! can it be got cheaper from a different place?

think i'll use the Halfords spray for the arches as they have some silver overspray on them so they really need a heavy coverage of black, and i'll use the black dye for the bumpers as it wont crack off or flake etc.

sound like a good move?

i have also a tip.. if you use a Heater (like a heating gun) and heat the rubber/plastic it will get the original Black color back (be sure to be patient and not to close might harm you plast if you heat it up to much, then wait untill its cold to work in Autoglym refurbisher.
i have used it with great success with my cars.
