HEY HEY HEY :D Lagos Yellow Cabrio saying hi

Hello peeps,
Just wanted to say helloooooo, not new to dubbing, but am new to the cabrio !!!
Having restored old beetle since i was about 15, moved onto 1.8 GTI mk1 in 1990.
Then babies !!!!!!! (7 seaters here we come)
Babes no longer babies, so Daff joined the fam
We're in Colchester, just got Daff from Leigh on sea, she has 54,000 from new, and had only done 2500 since 2007 !
Just changed the cam, pressure tested  at 14 bar (105 psi), ans is looking fairy good, hping to lower very soon, any thoughts on weather to go 40 or 60mm?????????

I would love to clay bar treat but have never done this ! is it fairly untechincall?

Anyway tap back if you wanna chat :D

Hi mate! Nice cab, im sure I seen this for sale in a dealership?

Claybar is really easy, just make sure you keep plenty of lube on the panels so you dont marr them.  It really is easy. You will feel when a panel is done as it becomes really smooth.

Hi Sarah

Welcome to the club.

Daff is a very nice example, i saw it advertised and considered selling my clipper to get this nice original example as really do think you have a corker there.

If you are refering to lowering for the 40 - 60mm i would really be tempted to keep it standard as its so nice, but if not id say 40 to make it more usuable day to day and keep the standard suspension for when you wana change back

Hope you enjoy it.

Cheers

Rich

cracking looking car that really is a beaut.

i really would leave this as standard as possible.

its got to be a unique and rare car it might be better for you in the long run to keep this one standard.

Lovely car either way.

oh and claying is very very very easy.

I would suggest using bilt hamber clay as you only need to use water instead of detailing spray which is just a waste.

you would probably need to use a quater of the clay.

start off by messing around with the clay to warm it up so just folder it and pull it. after a minute of that just spray the whole car with water and have a little spray bottle of water with you and just make sure your hands, clay and car and very wet. when you clay you will feel every bit of dirt when you rub and the more you rub the smoother the paint will feel. once its smooth move on. when the clay bar looks dirty just turn it over, then folder it once thats dirty to show a clean bit. be careful not to drop the bar if you do dispose of it as last thing you want is grit on the bar and then rubbing on your paint.

After just jet your car and then wash it with a micro fibre mitt and shampoo.

bit of polish, autoglymm super resin is a great beginer polish and then a bit of wax and it will be lovely.

if you want any more info let me know as im a detailing king these days :)

Hi Rich,
Thanks for the comments, she is a beaut :D so original, and many parts still look like new, just wish she had power steering… but what can ya do :D
Shes gonna be my daily driver, so was thinking about lowering for the cornering aspect ! as i remember how much better the Beetles were when i lowered those (done a fair few) Though often so low i couldnt get over a redbull can without scrapping lol, that was always fun at Santa Pod
Am getting roof re skinned soon, as tat is also the original one and now has a few tears (no leake tho)

Thanks

got to love a bit of polishing.

its worth doing at least once every 6 months bit of wax. will really help protect your paint.

if your getting a new roof as well i would highly recomend the auto glymm roof protection from halfords. about £20 but will really protect the roof and with your car being so low miles you got to look after her.

ive only just got a cabby so ill be looking to going to some shows. if i see the car ill be making sure its nicely polished :)

EXACTLY how it would have left the warehouse :D nothing added, nothing taken away, only panel resprayed, is the petrol filler panel, for obvious reasons !!

wow, yeah new roof and then it would be A1, i would recommend a Mohair as think they look much nicer and are of better quality, but if you are trying to stick OEM and more standard then vinyl looks more stock.

You can fit power sterring to these, some people used a modified Corsa steering rack or another sterring rack, and i thing a company called crazy quiffs, (link on here) were looking at conversion kit, but they are pricey.

you have a great car, look forward to seeing it in the flesh, you should try make the AGM in July, gona be a great show, were all a friendly bunch and be nice to put a face to the name

After seeing this it makes me think i want an earlier more retro cabby more and more lol
