help needed

hi guys
just wondereing if anybody in lancashire near preston could give me a hand on my car, its a 1.1 1983 mk1 obvisously and im having big running issues, basically its running lumpy and will cut off if u do not keep the revs up. and i have suddenly come across a new problem that the starter motor will not cut out after turining the key i have to unhook the battery to stop it   . but it only startes to turn over once u turn the key. but when the car does run, you have to keep the revs up it wont even run with choke fully on so you cant drive it. i have taken the carb off and have cleaned the jets and is still the same, the ignition timing has also been checked and set. i dont no what to do any ideas?

Starter could be a solenoid issue but not 100% sure  :dontknow: Also have you adjusted idle screw on carb? I'm no expert
