Groovejunk's MK I Cabby project

Post

Hi everyone!

Came across this site while searching for some goodies and been watching it for some days now. Seeing some really nice projects going on, so thought I will post mine.

First a bit about myself : 37 years, still 26 in my mind - for a couple of years now.. *cough*, comming from The netherlands and a daddy for 2 kids. I have a lovely wive and a addictive hobby like the most of you. ;)I'm a fulltime IT manager nerd and have minimal oldskool skills when it comes to old cars. My daily is a MK5 diesel with a "bit" of tuning. original 105BHP, now running 210BHP and 430Nm Torque.

Here's the daily all cleaned and waxed in some concourse paste :

Enough about me and the daily, here some pics of the hobby when i bought it :

The paint could use some TLC, so when everybody was watching TV I was washing and polishing the new love :

Allready a bit better!

Will make a new post of the things i've done last year.

Regards, and comments welcome.

Needed a new starter :

Steeringwheel in the car :

And a bit of fun :

The front was a bit to high, so i lowered it a bit :

Can't live without my espresso :

That's better! nice and even :

I had some "fiffth" rear lights , but didn't like the dark look on the car so i bought myself a set of originals :

Then it was time to do something about the interior and audio setup. Nothing fancy, eventually i want leather seats and backseat so i allready started with the doorpannels.

Handmade speakerrings, may change that later for some other solution, but for now it's suitable

And the finished product :

Later on some pics from installing.

First i thought it was nice to change the grille and headlights.

Before :

And after :

Did like the look for some weeks… but changed it again (photo's later on)

I also like the 'hand wash only' sticker, never seen one of those before.

Thanks for the welcome gents!

@ Andy : The sticker is available on ebay.de if you want some. I'm not really familiar with the "UK tuning style" , this is more like German style. I just do what I like with the cabby.

@ Smudger : I did slobber a bit by watching your topic.. I hope mine can get a respray next year and want a Weber setup in it…

But the TODO list for now is as follow :

- Actually do the break conversion.
- New Coilovers.
- New Exhaust. RVS system.
- New wheels.

That will make a hole in my bank account :D

Have you checked the earth wire to the steering box from the column, it's a short Brown one. These can break, so no horn, or have you discovered the fault?

Will check that. Good idea. Maybe it's the slip ring from the turn / MFA handles. And I allready descided that i wanted the MKII handles on it. I'm waiting for my supplier to email me.

First the little girl needs to go to bed so her daddy can do something with the car.

Daddyday every friday  :$
