what's the rear axle mounting points like? looks like there must have been some moisture in the boot to get the little bits of rust

Ahhh I see, not so clean and tidy but still, couple of repairs and it'll be spot on :y:

inner wings don't look too bad really, the repair panels available should cover all of it!
I'll be watching your progress though so keep the updates coming

I just (Tuesday) took off my rear axle. I was worried about stuck bolts, etc but I used a good tip: turn the nut ever so slightly the wrong way (clockwise, tighten), then turn it anticlockwise a tiny bit. Then squirt copious amounts of WD40 in and give it 10 mins or so. Then undo maybe only 1/10 or so, then redo and undo several times. Then use more WD40. Then loosen, say 1/4, then back & forth many times, then more penetrating fluid. Only when you feel the nut loose, should you simply wind it off.
If I were you, I'd go round the whole car and soak every nut and bolt you find with WD40 now! And do this regularly over the next few days and weeks.

I had to undo my axle mounts a little while ago for something… I just put an air gun on mine and whacked it up to full power - I had faith that my little car would not break! ops:
