Got a MK1 Golf....I'm hooked again!
Had a Mk1 driver 13 years ago which was my pride and joy and fancied another to have a tinker with….forgot how addictive it can be!
Bought this git cabby a couple of weeks ago in need of some TLC.
The car had been resprayed but not too great, so I got to work with the P2000 wet & dry to get rid of the orange peel and paint runs. Took a week to flat it back properly.
Then hammered it with the machine polisher and plenty of G3 to bring out the shine and it came up really good.
Added some chrome trims and filler cap to lift the look of the car (it was a bit dark looking for me)
After lots of deliberting and advice from a few people on the forum I decided to go for bigger wheels. Had lots of advice not to go for 16s due to clearance issues but decided on it anyway.
I upgraded the alloys for 16s and they fit perfectly. No rubbing on the coilovers, no rubbing on the arches (had to stiffen up the suspension slightly and roll the arches this weekend)
Put 10mm spacers on the front in order to clear the calipers and 20mm spacers on the rear to beef up the stance.
Wheels are 16" lenso bsx et35 7.5j with 195/40/16 yokahamas.
Going to drop it another inch or so this week, should look even better.
If anyone needs wheels and Tyres and amazing service, speak to Justin at topgear in bridport. Couldn't do enough to help with the fitting. So good I'm getting my new exhaust this week from them!

Got loads more I want to do and browsing through these forums is excellent to see what others have done. There are some truly amazing cars and really helpful people on this forum.
Thanks for everyone's advice so far…no doubt I'll be asking more questions in the future!

The wheels and side trim really suit it.

I was quite fortunate to get this car for just £850. Needed a clutch plate (usual bulkhead repair) and a good service. Hadn't been touched in ages by the look of the dizzy cap. Tha cambelt had been put on 2 teeth out also!
Now it runs like a dream. Did the paintwork as described above.
The car had fully adjustable coilovers on when I bought it. Someone had snapped a torque bit in the securing screw of one of the spring seats which needed cutting off and a new one fitting. Avo sent one next day for just £7!…result. Thought I may have to buy a new setup.
The interior is a blue checkered type.. Apparently quite rare in good condition. I'll post some pics to get your opinions.
Side trims were fine so didn't want to spend a fortune on new chrome ones. Found some 7mm chrome trim strips on eBay which fitted perfectly in the groove (cost £15 to do the whole car)
Thanks for all your comments.
P.s does anyone know how to move the front number plate position to under the bumper? Special brackets?
