I forgot to say many thanks to Walt for supplying the Sportline decals - they are a great fit and match.
The original headlights were past it, so we went for crystals instead - I know some folks say it is putting new eyes on an older car, which is wrong :-) - I think it suits her though.

I've got crystal cross hairs on my twin grill and they look fab, nice one mate.

A February 2009 update
The cabbys MOT ran out on the 15th Jan.
I knew that I had a CV boot and steering gator to fix.
Soon found out the disks would fail the MOT and then I found a rear broken spring :-(
So what was going to be a quick fix and then MOT turned into bringing forward my plans for it - its been a cold month for working on cars !!
I have replaced all the brakes from the cross linkage:
16V Master cylinder and 22.5mm servo
256mm disks and calipers (Audi carriers)
Rear disks (late MK2 calipers)
Scirocco handbrake cables
Goodridge braided hoses
Copper/Nickel brake lines
DOT 4 fluid
It has been treated to an H&R Cup suspension kit - 25mm drop, it is a really comfortable ride, not harsh at all - very pleased with this as it is the wifes car and she would not be happy with a bone shaker !!
New VW top mounts, poly bushes all round. Eibach anti-roll bars. New wishbone ball joints.
Second hand front hub - the lower bolt had seized so badly that in trying to hammer it out the casting split !!
An "s" shaped metal pipe from the fuel pump - heavily corroded and very awkward to replace.
An electric aerial for the radio.
A Jetex exhaust system - to replace to blowing hodge bodge and codge that was fitted when we bought it.
Today I gave it a good clean and polish ready for its MOT next week !!
Here are some picks from today (A few rain spots on the lense):

Hate to point it out (though you probably already know) but looks like your side cables on the hood might be on the way out. I don't think you should be able to see any of the frame above the drivers windows

I've been looking at the weitech set up but that's a 30-35mm drop which is a little too much.
Can't wait to get my little red one ready for the summer, it's about time to start spending the cash!

They were not cheap at just uder ?450 delivered - but cheaper than buying genuine VW if you could get them, the front springs and rear shocks are now obsolete.
I got them from here
http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pages/products/product_info.mhtml?product=3880329
The front dampers are inserts, so you need to make sure your struts are OK.
I can honestly say that they give an OEM feel to the ride - so they were worth every penny !!!
