Engine restoration and chassis
It appeared it was a trade in from a customer of the owner who dealt in much more expensive cars and he had run out of space at his depot.
The internal faults I instantly recognised
Head gasket gone
A few water leaks but no oil.
There were a few worn hoses but Nothing I could see more than that on first inspections.
I did the usual checks on the vehicle. It started first time which could be a good sign.
External faults
The usual Pratt keyed marks on bonnet and nearside passenger F/R doors.
Two of the shoes where worn and later I found a Cylinder faulty.
A slight tear in the roof but more down to wear than anything else.
Two nasty cracks in the windscreen, one not a MOT failure the other definitely.
Back fog light broken
Some usual bulbs blown and fuses
This car I believe at some stage had been very well looked after but with 14 owners. So if anyone recognises it along the way please let me know.

It does not look too bad at first glance but don't judge a book by it's cover , much work needs to be done.
As you can see this is what i had to deal with

Previously I put the gasket down to a slit water radiator overflow as the previous owner probably never recognised. I dealt with that, well cut off the pressure and it springs elsewhere and then again but I decided that the leak was now minimal to carry on with the gasket. On the way I spotted problems( Manifold Blowing etc ) but I will not waffle on about them.
It was ready and I turned the key, 30 seconds it was fine and then greys smoke, tons off it. Every hole you can think up it came spurting out even the air hose and dipstick…Cream
It had gone again. I have never seen a Gasket go like this it was like a volcano erupting. I have seen many Gaskets blow but this was 10/10 on the Richter scale.
If anyone is interested then I will leave you with a guess with why….It was not a water leak?

I had enough of this engine, I could of started again on my 3rd gasket replacement, but with the oil/cooler (I could by pass it I know) with 3 or 4 leaking pipes even with new pipes clips etc, a blowing manifold with new gaskets, more oil, more filter etc I just could not face another re build with the chance of a another gasket blow.
I could have had the head tested and the head skimmed again but the money was piling up and the uncertainty of it going again mentally I could not do it.
So out with the old engine, anyone trying to get a engine out with no fox hole and just jacks will tell you it aint easy in fact it's damn right dangerous but I was not going back now
OUT WITH THE OLD…..

i like that bit about the jacks bein danderous erm this is how i do all my engine transplants and conversions i find it easier than using a crane as somtimes you cant get the crane were you want it lol
also their doesnt seem to be any thing wrong with that engine you are taking out javascript:emoticon(':dontknow:')
