Engine for my project

Where 2 start... Well ive got a mk1 golf driver which had a mk2 golf 1.6 driver engine in when i baught it. Ive decided to start my project with an engine swap, ive baught a 1997 audi a4 with a 1.8 20v non turbo engine, first question is can i run this engine on carbs or bodies to save with all the wiring and ecu?? second question is what gearbox would be best to use as the a4 is currently automatic??

Yea I don't see why not. You will need an appropriate inlet manifold and fabricate engine mounts etc. As for a gearbox, sorry no idea
