cleaning split rims

copied it from my post on SVAG

say these shoddy rims were left for a reasonable length of time, say @5months unpolished after a winter lay up(they were jet-washed down at local petrol station before removal)

now you would probably think with a wash and a 600 yard slow drive home removal and in-house storage they would still rock……..

but then you'd be wrong

so quick wash down

good job!

how do you stop polish getting on the tyres?

I have toyo proxes and they have these tiny little grooves right next to the rim that need polishing

the wheels look shiny but the tyres have white crap all over them

Just get some tyre blackner/polish  and rub them up, should get rid of it.

This stuff  http://www.halfords.co…ngId_-1_categoryId_123059 from Halfords should do the trick.

my tyres are quite stretched which helps the lay on of polish, but before when i worked as a valeter i was just careful tbh

is the white stuff on the tyre from polish or tyre soap?either way general tyre foam/dressing wont take this offif its really stubborn you may have to get a little brush,i wiped my tyres down straight after fitting then used an old toothbrush to get any remnants after i got the tyres fitted but the same would go for bits of old polish but tbh if you just give it a wipe with a damp rag it usually gets rid of the majority of sins
