only one way to find out mate!  i fitted a webber 32/34dmtl carb to my cabby with a sprint filter and it breathed like a dragon! i ended up putting the stock air filter box back onto it to make it a bit more sociable! its all personal taste tho!

Should give the car a nice induction noise, however, unless you make a cold air feed all it will be doing is sucking in hot air, reducing performance. The standard vw airbox is a difficult thing to improve on

ok thanks for that, how hard is it to make a cold air feed??? :?  :?

realisticly all "cold air feed" it is is a tube pointing at the filter, it  wont give you more power,  not enough to ofset the weight of carrying around a tube everyware anyhoo…

its only chavvy if your in a corsa or a saxo e.t.c with some fusion speakers flat out ;)

if it's on a carb you'll prob run it mega lean and cause damage? if you just want noise drill holes in the airbox lol

You couldn't be more wrong. Cold air is absolutely paramount to an engine making power, tuners go to great lengths to isolate heat from intake.

A few degrees off the charge temperature can make a phenomenal differerence in potential power gains.

There again, if you just bolt a halfords tacky anodised 'DVH' kit to the front of your Corsa - probably not.

Needs to be properly located and the fuelling optimised to suit….

^^ what he said, ideally you would want to 'box' off the cone from the rest of the engine bay and run a cold intake into it.
But tbh i would just sell it and save the time, effort and money of fitting something that will create no real gains, if not loses.

in a 1.1  :?  i dont meean to be funny but tuners run  a lot more than 50 od hp so the persentage gain is noticable.

A 10% gain is 10% more power no matter what engine you start with.

Funny how you'll spend £50+ on making your 1.1 run potentially worse and with the added bonus of increased engine wear.

All for the sake of a whaaaap noise - then voice concerrns that you wont like the noise

Heat Shields can increase power by 6.8hp on a 150hp engine due to reducing inlet air temperatures by 14C. Banks Power Figure See references.

Induction kits, if not shielded from the heat of the engine can potentially cause power loss by drawing in a hotter intake charge.

Our Results using heat shields enclose and aftermarket Pipercross air filter versus the standard air box.

Urban driving: max: + 6.8hp with heat shields - temps 14C lower with heat shields over standard air box.

urban driving: avg + 5.84hp with heat shields - temps 12C lower with heat shields over standard air box.

open road: avg + 4.38hp with heat shields - temps 9C lower with heat shields over standard air box.

These gains solely take into consideration the hp gains due to lower temps and not the hp gains that the induction filter may also bring, in reality the gains are probably larger due to the use of a freer flowing air filter.

Air Filter Heat Shields - 4 DIY Layouts Compared to the Stock Airbox

start with 50 hp and with a performance induction kit and a cold air feed the gain will be 2.2 hp following the same ratio

not quite 5% even

compared to the cost of the Pipercross kit i wouldnt waste my money
You thought of boring it out?

you trying to say cold air will give an extra 10%

It's not possible to give values like that - whenever you see claims of extra % power then treat it as rubbish. As it depends on so many things.

However if your current setup is poor i.e. a drilled airbox or cone filter sucking hot air from the engine bay and then you convert it to a decent cold air fed filter - that is also isolated from the engine bay - then it is entirely conceivable to make considerable gains.

OK….. Im none the wiser due to all your technical talk :)  :)  but thnks very much for all your feed back. Ive got a 1.8 16v kr engine and its putting out at just over 133bhp so was hoping for a nice sound and prob about 2bhp more       but really was interested in the sound…..because im gimp like that. if its gonna make it run crap i wont bother.

thanks again :D  :D
