arrived this morning!!

new member here so i thought id start up a running comentry of my cabby project!!! car arrived first thing this morning…. bought it on a whim from my best mate along with my old mk2 van i sold him years before!!! anyways since the van is a long term projet i thought id get cracking with the mk1 first and use it as a daily when finished! anyways so it arrived first thing this morning, after a brisk 300 mile journey to my house (i recently moved t oxfordshire from teesside) it arrived and was offloaded!

after she was unloaded i stuckk her on axle stands and went from top to bottom (and underneith) with a poking stick and a pen and paper! she hasn seen the roads since 2009 si i expected a big list of jobs to do and here goes!

- two front wings and lower valence, rear lower valence
- brakes all round & lines
- new battery
- exhaust midle seection
- coolant flange
- full service & new belts
- booth bottom uspension arms,
- coilovers
-respray an a general tidy up!

the actual car is solid as hell underneith, just the thin metawork that has suffered! anyway parts will be ariving very shorly and ill be getting the welder out and posting more shortly!!!

the car was oiginally white so im not sure weather its gonna stay blac o go white again…. or something completly different haha all ideas are welcome!!!

time for a bit of an update….. it been a while and the poject has been a littloe delayed as a few unexpected bits and bobs have popped up! anyways, first of all made a bit of celebratory chicken pie : P

back to more serious things, starting underneith, rear axel was looking pretty rough, so i wire brushed off the worst of the peeling paint etc and it looked lie this….

ive repainted it all using good old hammerite, although i havent got any pictures :s ill try and get one later on…..

after having a good poke around inside the rear arches, and cleaning them with my trusty wire brush i realised they were in fantastiic condition, just a little tatty. thi was solved with a good rub down and a nice thick coating of black underseal paint! looks mint although picture isnt vey good. i not worried bout the overspray on the shocker as these will be gettng replaced in the not so distant future….

next the missis came out to see what i was up to and had a little pose in the car before i started t strip the exterior

stripped the rear bumpper off and found that the lower valence was actually very solid, just hd a little dent which ive straightend out.

stripped the front end back and noticed it had had a bit of a bump on the front end, and that the front valence would need to be replaced…. as you can see its well gone!!!!!!

im going to get repair pannels for both sides as well as a new front valence…. one more item to the shopping list!!

anyway the project has had another delay as my daily failed its mot on emisiions and a few other bits…. bmw cats are expensiive….. : ( pop up garage is cool tho :D

anyways, since i'm a bit skint, i thought id get cracking on a few bits that hopefully wouldnt cost too much! next job was to take the head off and drill and re thread the bolts for the temperature sender housing on the side of the head, as the previous owner had snapped off the bolts….. so afte maring everything up, off comes the head!

after a little clean and paint of the rocker cover it looked like this…. im currently in the process of polishing the inlet manifold o more pictures to follow!

stuck some new wings on to stop the kids in the street hurting themselves if they fell on the car etc and now it looks like this…. (theyre just shot on wih two bolts at the moment not line up)

ill post more updates as soon as they happen!!! does anyone have the temperature sender houing for sale? i cant find a new one anywhere?? also can does anyone have a clue about the alloys fitted? theyre stamped "MAXX" but i cant find any info on them anywhere! they look cool as hell though : D

Nice updates mate, it won't take much to sort that out. Is the temp sender housing the one attached to the head in your pic? If so, I've got one here.

Bottom left of pic?

Cheers, Andy.
