black 1.8

well i thought i would start a new thread as its the start of a new project,
i bought the car on saturday with no mot a high idle no clutch and very dull paintwork. its done 123.000 miles so nothing major
car unfortunatly has a glass sunroof but i will live with it for now and is completely standard in every way with original paint
the paint is in a bad way with key scratches and other scratches and a dent in the front wing that im sure will pop out
, but the rest of the car is spot on rust wise with virtually none underneath is very very good with no problems in the usual areas and it also drives real nice (once i adjusted the idle screw and clutch cable   )  no over heating and no nasty noises so generally happy

spent a couple of hours with the T-Cut and polish today and has improved it 100% but its crying out for a respray which will happen very soon along with new bumpers and trim
here is a couple of pics after a wash and sort out

looking at wheels at the moment but cannot decide what to go for
any ideas ?
also it sits on brand new bilstein shocks and springs but these will be replaced with coilovers eventually, maybe springs to start with to bring it down slightly
im looking forward to see it move on and look good again after the paint

Looks pretty good to me!

Those 9 spokes look good when the car is lowered, try it before you buy new wheels

i'm liking  your motor though! its not often you see an origional in that condition, bet your arms were aching after all that t-cut though    good job!

I'd stick with the wheels you have or maybe some G60 steels or ATS cups, dont spoil it with new style wheels

i took the car for an mot monday and have not touched anything since i picked it up (apart from clutch and idle adjustment) and it flew through without even an advisory, pretty good considering it has sat on someones driveway unused for best part of 3 years,  :D
im over the moon , mot guy said he is very impressed with it and also said i should not get it resprayed as its original paint , apparently he used to work for vag when mk1's came onto the scene and has plenty of spares tucked away if ever i need anything

nice example, im amazed it went thru the mot after being stood for 3 years, especially with there notorious brakes, top work. as for a respray, sure it may be origional paint but no matter how much you clean it there will always be scratches and dents on it that will only get more and more on ur nerves, whereas a respray does mean no origional paint, but you'll have a mint example after tho and if you use a decent bodyshop, flawless paint, even better than origional maybe!!!
