Audi 80 2.0l 16v, going into a mk1 convertible!

:?

So here goes my 2.0 16v conversion, being a girl I dont really know what I'm doing, I just got a loan, got an Audi 80 engine with 16v manifold! and left the work to my boyfriend ( who done his own 2.0 16v conversion ) and his mates!

Two weeks on and the thing will not fire up, I'm ( well they ) are assuming we have the wrong wiring loom! we think the bloke gave us a Passat one, but he also gave us a corrado one and something else, we think!

I was assured this would be a " straight in, one weekend job " obviously that is not the case!

I can't wait for it to be done though, you dont often see a girl driving a convertible ( ltd edition CC ) 2.0 16v everyday, hoping this will be done for GTI Spring Festival in March so I can run it!

Fingers crossed, weather dosent help things!

So, we have sorted out the wiring loom problem now, it actually starts, however we have an air leak, water leak, fuel leak and oil leak, which is o.k cos ive been told that these are minor issues!

My brakes are nearly done and the exhaust manifold needs welding, then thats it, so GTI Spring Festival here I come ( I hope )

So the story so far is……….

The water, fuel, air and oil leaks are sorted, just waiting for people who say they are going to help me to actually bother coming round and finishing what they started! ie: brakes and 1 driveshaft.

I want to drive this now!!!!!!

Hopefully I will be at GTI spring festival, 6 days to go!

So my car is still on axel stands 3 days before gti springfest!

But the good news is that my boyfriend is giving me a gas flowed inlet manifold and throttlebody and uprated ECU, I wonder how long this will take to fit!

Ps if you see a purple mk1 with white wheels thats my man! I will standing there with no car!

Remapped K-Jet Ecu? Or is it running EFI?

Just to clarify, I'm showing an interest in the uprated ECU, I'm asking if its possibly an electronic fuel injection system of some kind, or whether its an uprated ignition only ECU (as found typically on 16V engine conversions running K-Jet). Or, an outside chance, some kind of KE-Jet conversion with a tweaked ECU (which would be interesting too, since this could save costs because you'd get all the KE-Jet stuff with a 9A engine, they used it as their fuel injection).

There's no one set way of doing things and plenty of variations.

Anything which gets a bit more power still, always pricks my ears up!

So I didnt go to Gti Spring Festival, well I did but not in my car, I knew it wouldnt be ready!

Oh yeah with regards to the uprated ECU, I have been told it has been wired differently? thats all I know!

My brakes are finally done, but they need bleeding, all well and good until you find out that someone has nicked the brake fluid bottle? What sort of person nicks one of those, so now have to order one!

The good news is, brake fluid bottle depending, is that it's booked in to torque exhausts for 2moro for the welding of manifold, then all I need is an M.O.T oh and I wanna get some T1R's ( tyres ) to stop the spin.

How can I race of the lights when I'm spinning?

This is turning out to be a bit of a palava now!  Boys eh!!!!!!!!!
I should have done this myself! only joking

Anyone wanna swap  BBS split rims for Borbet B's? they need a refurb?
Also anyone got a convertible roof cover, I want a black one!

………….oh and I wanna get some T1R's ( tyres ) to stop the spin.

………….

To avoid wheelspin, here's a couple of suggestions in cost order:

1. Lower your tyre pressures. The lower the pressure, the larger the contact area, the more grip. But it will wear out the tyres more, overheat them if running any long distance, and affect the stability in cornering (so, lower the rears, compromise the front grip vs rear grip) so the actual pressure you'd run vary according to how much straight line, or cornering you'd do. Eg drag racing would mean significantly different pressures than a circuit, than road use.
2. Do a burnout. You don't need to do it long, enough to raise the temperature of the tyres to above the track, is fine. After you've done a few, you'll sense when the tyres are 'cooked' by the change in amount of smoke, and it will grip a little more, probably pulling you out of the burnout box.
3. Take your foot off the throttle!!!! I have a 2.0 16V and typically need to use 1/2 to 3/4 throttle to launch, even on cut slicks, to avoid wheelspin.
4. Use better tyres. T1Rs are a compromise tyre, typically used when its wet, on trackdays. There are grippier tyres out there but they will be unsuitable for driving in the rain (even though they're road legal).
5. Launch control. Some ECUs have a facility for this, however you'd need to use EFI and its basically the same as (2) but done by a computer.
6. Fit an LSD. As well as the doubling the chances of more grip, it will help you do a more consistent burnout, ie not spinning up just one tyre.

People have successfully ran 11 sec 1/4 mile, with >400bhp, with a front wheel drive car. So 4WD isn't really necessary, so long as you do the things required to get "hook".

So my car is in Torque exhausts getting the manifold welded TODAY!!! woo woo.

Then I need an M.O.T but that's minor!!!!!!!!!

Driving bank holiday weekend , bet it rains so I cant put the roof down!!!!!

Its done woo hoo!

Finally finished, runs o.k, had a race with a focus ST and beat it, doesent sound too great but for me he was my first target and I won.

Needs tuning yet though.

Got some Toyo Proxy T1R's there good!

Thats about it, will put some pictures on here soon.

Woo Hoo!!!!!!!!!!!
