Another 1.6 GTI Resto

Bought the car a few months back it been stood for a while and had been stripped back for a resto by the previous owner so I knew it was a really solid shell other then the back pannel which needs some work.

Plan is to sort the bodywork, paint which is going to be white with a blue flick and put back on the road with the original engine and a few mods.

Shell looks very good, look forward to more pics. What mods are you planning? Seems to be quite a few 81 1.6 GTI resto on the go at the moment .

Need to decide on a colour not sure whether to stick with Mars Red or go for another factory colour. I am thinking either white or silver.

Mod wise a slight drop on G Max kit or Koni TA, stainless exhaust system, Audi Throttle Bodies and some other minor mods and tidying. Possibly flush tailgate and stripped interior.

Looks like a clean shell to start with.

Between moving house and work commitments I went down to see the progress on the car.Timski from this forum is doing the bodywork and paint for me and is a top lad if you need any bodywork, paint of other MK I spares and your in the Surrey/Sussex area then get in touch.















As you can see a few bits still need sorting before paint, but we have sourced a new VAG wing and a really good used wing, bonnet and tailgate. The one thing major thing left is to get rear pannel repair section as the car was been rear ended and been repaired at some point in it's life.
