Always somethng to do

Hello, I have a Mk1 1.8 cab 1984. My husband had it respayed for a pressent for me. It has been in storage for a few years. as I didn't have the space at home I have finally now got it back to store at home.
I am looking for a new display. the one in it, the temperate gauge goes sky high and starts that annoying buzzing sound. changed all the sensers with one effect. Oil and water levels good. I think the display itself is faulty.
I am also considering painting the engine, good idea??

there is a clock display on ebay with the MPG readout but it says its not compatable for my 1984 model. only 1982,1983. Does anyone know the difference between them or why it won't the 1984.
