Subtle Madness. RAT mk1
hello
i know that the rat look is not for everyone but i like it and for those who do here is mine:
i've recently purchaced this 1983 vw golf CL, as soon as i saw it i fell in love. which was quite strange seing that i would have never thought i'd be driving something like this
having a mini as a project in the garage i knew straight away i wanted my minilites on the golf
unfortunetly it turns out i need spacers for the front as they hit the callipers on the inside of the spokes, but i'm quite happy with the look with just the rear.
as you can see ive stripped the rack ready to be taken off.
the roof is painted brown, so im going to remove some paint, and see what happens.
let the rust begin !!
the roof will end up mostly like this
so what do you think ?
any suggestions or advice will be appreciated

Hi, nice car, is the "rat look" intentional? do you remove the paint yourself to get the rust? why do most "rat look" cars have roof racks with what appears to be any old junk on them? I am not trying to knock your car, i just don't get it and i do like the car. Personally i would try and get the "rat look" with a matt black car because when it becomes unfashionable it would save work on not having to replace rusty panels. I guess i am just getting old, bugger.

yeah removal of the paint was done by myself to achieve rust. however the rust is only surface deep so it shouldnt be that hard to sand back down if needed.
in reply to why the roof rack?? im not entirely sure myself! haha - but what i do know is that the rack along with the rest of the car, its just good fun!!
trying to make a car individueal on the minimum budget.
ive been to a couple of car meets with this already and everyone seems to love it because its so different than a corsa or all of that usual rubbish you see.
but like you said people dont understand and just see a pile of scrap driving down the road. but its all about having fun. (or at least thats what i think )

i'm not sure how the car will do on mot in regards to the bumper. however de-bumpered vehicles pass - so i cant see it being a problem. but saying that they might say that if it has a bumper it has to be fully secured.
we shall see

Yeah that would be awsome! You got a link ?
Somethings wrong with the rear brakes today. the rear drum or drums Are making clunking noises. It sounds like a train coming down the road!!
The hand brake leaver also travels further up than usual
Could this be a snapped cable ? Or somethig a bit more serious ?
Any suggestions apperciated.
