Any advice would be much appreciated
I have a 1992 1.8i 8v and to be honest the engine & gearbox is not great, the rest of the car is sound so I bought a abf engine, gear box, loom, ecu & front breaks from a mk3 gti. A friend of mine is going to do the conversion for me as my mechanical ability is limited! In order to try & get this done over a weekend I was hoping someone could tell me what potential problems I might have and also parts needed. Thanks in advance….

Sounds like a good project there, but probably best to ask about conversions in the technical forum.

Is the abf going to run the standard injection? If so the loom will need splicing onto the mk1 loom, not overly difficult but all adds time.
You'll need a mk1 16v conversion exhaust manifold suitable for abf.
May aswell budget for new belts and a tensioner.
If your running the abf gearbox you'll need some off the shelf 02a conversion mounts and also the shifter will need routing to fit cable change to your car.
You'll need to bodge and exhaust (if you have te abf downpipe then forget the above manifold, cut and shut the abf to the mk1 exhaust)
Few things for you
