92 rivage engine conversion...doing the right thing?

Im currently in the process of getting my 92 rivage engine reconditioned.  It finally became unable to pass the MOT without, and my mechanic recommended re doing to avoid wasting money in the future.
My car is my pride and joy, having been partly restored by the previous owner, no problems with body work and the fact selling wasnt an option ive gone ahead with the work!! am i mad to do this?

Having no knowledge of cars, and being a girl ive found london garages not take me seriously so  Ive gone to oxford to get the work done, engine reconditioned, new clutch, pistons etc and have been quoted in the region of £1200…. does this sound sensible?

Im hoping that fellow mk1 owners can put my mind at rest, and if you have any further advice Id love to hear from you!

thanks
emma

Price sounds about right to me.

If it needs doing and you can afford it then why not.

Engine rebuild is the last thing on my list for my rivage.
