77 Golf 1 GLS Project (Australia)
I know I have posted some photos before but this is my little build thread.
I don't want to give too many plans away as I am constantly changing my mind on things and I think its annoying when I do that. :dontknow: I will tell you though that I will be converting to a heron motor with a 5sp box. I would love to turbo it but I don't know if that will happen yet or not.
Anyway, shes a 1977 Golf 1 GLS Automatic. Up until last year, she was owned since new by an older gent . It was then sold to a golf nut near him in Hobart (Tasmania), then once again it was up for sale. Unfortunately I could not buy it at that time but my good friend Dom did, he has many a mk1 including one with a VR6 conversion thats about half way done.
He was nice enough to offer it to me first when he decided to sell it as he knew I missed out on the car the first time. My finace, as beautiful and nice as a girl can be, went out of her way to speak to Dom behind my back and buy the car for me!
Anyway, after much loving feelings later, I flew down to Tasmania and picked it up.
This is the first time I saw her… With Dom driving and smiling liek a complete muppet.
And some other photos from the trip to Tasmania…
Meeting up with Benny and his very nice 8v Mk2 (not many 2dr mk2s in Australia, less than 15 I would say - he has 2 of those 15)
The morning after the night before…
Dom trying to 'borrow' some internet to print my tickets for the ship back to the mainland
Saying good bye to Dom and his lovely mk1 with 2E in it
Waiting to board the spirit of tasmania
One of the first off! Thank god
Now for some of the cars I saw while in Tassie
Beaut Mk2 Escort
HSV W427
New GT3 and R34 GTR N1 Nur getting off the Spirit

Ollie approves of the Mk1
Heres some of my parts that I have put on, the lights are different now and the wheels have not been mounted yet. I am about to order some Hottunning coilovers within the next few weeks.
I also need to organise tyres (165x50x15) and some 15mm and 20mm hubcentric spacers.

I also purchased an old school roof rack as both the fiance and I surf (as all Aussies should!). I also borrowed some standard cheese cutter steelies and tryed to fit my riken turbos.
My new roof racks
And the most recent shots…
And yes, I am a proud west ham fan.. GO THE HAMMERS 8)

My 76 will hopefully look similar when it's done (may be some time)…
Good luck with the mods

It does look better in photos though, it has some blemishes in the paint and a couple of dents and stuff. No major rust yet.. BUT, I have not looked that deep. I will be in a month as we move in to our new house.

Oh by the way; I would happily swap for a 78/79 Mk1 GTI 1600 in Mars Red
1: You're crazy. Yellow is the best colour! I'm painting mine a similar colour very soon.
2: I'd love to see some more photos of the interior, if you have any? Particularly doorcards, carpet and seats as I can't decide between two colour schemes for my new interior, and yours is very close to one of the schemes I had in mind 8)
Fingers crossed it's nice and solid underneath, can't imagine it being that rusty having been down under its whole life!

1 - No way, mars red early GTI is where it's at mate! So rare in Australia its not funny
2 - I can do that for you, give me a little bit of time though as we are currently packing up the house to move 2000klms away and my home internet is no more.

It's no problem about the interior shots, ill get some organised over the weekend hopefully.
Ok, I have spent more money on eBay.. newest things include a haynes manual (the big brown one) and a hayne restoration manual. I also got another gearknob, some sparkplugs for a Heron motor and am bidding on a GTI oilcooler and some other stuff.
I received my free money from the Australian governement and its going towards the GLI Cabby parts car thats on the other side of the country.

Today, I am getting some Toyo 165x50x15 tyres mounted onto the Riken wheels. Only catch is that the wheels will be going on the Honda Jazz daily driver for a few months until the Golf is lowered and ready for them.
Ill mount them though for some photos
PS: About to put deposit on coilovers and cant wait! 8)

Good stuff!

Hot Tunnings is all I can afford at the moment, getting a great deal on them though. Eventually I plan on getting some Weitec GT's or KW V1's.

literally the dream car i could never afford
Shes not that good mate, no where near as nice as a S1 GTI! The paint needs work as it has a lot of imperfections that dont come up in photos.
But thank you! Always nice to hear.
