1st Project

Having owned a nice mk1 GTI for a while, I decided it was time to opt for some more power and modifications, instead of altering my pride and joy, I have bought a nice clean shell, and I am planning on doing 1.8t conversion.

Here are a few pics of the car

As you can see, it has a rubbish engine! So I have a nice AGU engine to go in, getting it sprayed a nice mars red at the end of May, got some aluline turbines to go on it too. Hoping to have it on the road for March next year! I will get some more photos up later in the week with some of the goodies I've bought.

Thanks for looking :-)

Haha, yea. Room is a bit tight in my granda's garage!
Thankfully there is somewhere a bit more spacious to do the work!

Consider yourself lucky. A lot of peeps including myself don't even have a garage!

Well, I myself don't, luckily I have relatives more than willing to lend a hand. Would be well and truly stuck without them!

Just picked up my new wheels this evening

Going to have to wait until payday before I can get any rubber on them. Doesn't really matter anyways as it'll be a while before I need them.

Anyone recommend some good tyres, the wheels are 7J x 15 E28s

Thanks for looking!

Well, a busy month working on my current daily has left me without much time spent on the project.

Spent most of today cleaning and sorting parts.

Passenger seat with downpipe (not cleaned the seat  :redfaced: )

Doors, wings, and some boxes

A smoothed boot

Some painted bits

and a rear spoiler

Now, does anyone know what these are? I'm guessing door pockets, but I'm not really sure

Thanks for looking, it also appears I don't have a gearstick… if anyone could help me out with that it'd be great :)

Just picked up some new parts

Parcel Shelf

Front Brakes

Some nice VDO Gauges

Got an issue with the brakes, one of them is missing a runner as pictured here

Anyone know how I get a new one or what I need to do.

Will hopefully get them cleaned this weekend

Thanks

Spent this morning doing some welding jobs and fixing up the mounts to the engine and gearbox.

Also got a price for getting the ECU done, got quoted £300 all in for a Immo removal and a remap - is this reasonable or as I think, a bit steep?

Got the engine mounted in the bay

Now whipped it out and were prepping the bodywork for painting aswell as rebuilding  back axle, brakes, cleaning, polishing, buying, sorting, selling, getting confused….

If anyone can help me out I'm looking for waist trim and the bottom trim stuff?? Also a site to buy the side stickers from?

Thanks :)

Okay, done a fair bit on the car since last update…

First thing was move an old knackered shell, this is going to be a skip on wheels when I get what I want off it… pedals, back axle, few other bits and bobs

Then after stripping the underside, all welding was done and it is now nice and black

Quick question, I see on many cars they have the scuttle panel removed, what are the pro's and con's of this? My red shell doesn't have one and wanted to know if its worth fitting?

Next job is paint the inside, done most of the prep work now :D

Thanks

Its just a cosmetic thing really, will make your bay look nice and clean when you fit everything in.It opens up the bay giving a de cluttered look  :D

I thought as much. Is there any adverse affect to the heating system taking in engine air as opposed to air through the bonnet vents?

Hi all,

Done some more painting…

masked the underside off to get some stonechip stuff on

some paint on the inside

Engine bay all nice and red

Whats next….

more prep, and then some more prep to get the outside painted!

Does anyone have the line of trim that goes along underneath the doors? Also a good place to get door stickers?

Thanks

Some bits ready for painting

Some red bodywork

Front end built up

Front end built up again

Back axle going in

Arriving soon I have a filler neck, headlining, fusebox and hopefully a loom to start putting it together once the bodywork is finished.
