Can you explain the logic of wide rear wheels, the car is a FWD?

But it doesn't look good, it looks rubbish! It just looks rubbish IMHO, and oversized, and looks like the wide wheel is dragging the car slower than it could go if they were the proper size? Also if they don't fit inside the arches then it looks all wrong. If the car were RWD, and the tyre fits into the wheelarch (eg by modifying the wheel tub, and running a narrow axle) then fair game it would look fine (as in a bodied drag racer) because it looks purposeful - the modification is done for a purpose (more grip in the dry).

But since the car is FWD, there is no need for rears, indeed all they'll do (even if they fit) is to create extra rolling resistance.

You don't see RWD cars with massively oversized front wheels, after all?

expect hassle from the police, also the rim will get chehwed and stone chiped and is more suseptable to damage.

Really anything over 6 inch wide starts to take away from the driving experience on a road going mk1, while i can see that wider wheels look good once they get to 8,9 or 10 inch wide the unsprung weight starts getting ridiculous especially on the light rear end, as for wider wheels on the rear of a front drive. Still if its only for posing.

They look great.  I'm going to be getting wider wheels for my golf.
This is how i'm going to solve the problem with them sticking out . . .
And as they are only 13's will fit straight under the arch.

They can move into position to allow an extra 1-2 inches.

Alex.

Think the wheels are nice but I'm not keen on the stretch. But hey, I don't have to drive it!

If it were mine, I'd either chop the rear beam or get wider arches, though they'd probably have to be a bit too big to cover non stretched tires.

Like I said in the other post its up to you.

Some people dont like the poke, stretch tryes thing, and other people do.

Personaly I like it as long as it not a stupid stretch, and as for your rears, with some camber, they would be fine, not far away from the stance I will be running.

As long as you don't mind the handling being compromised, but by the sounds of things it will be more show.

Pete.

They look good, mate of mine putting these on a mk1 Polo, sticking out proper bad..

Go for it I say….

Personally I like cars slammed and driven.. as long as the wheels dont rub I'm happy

Lea, instead of these little mini threads, any chance you can start a proper project thread and update as you go, just to keep it all a little tidier, cheers
