1.8 CARB TO INJECTION
I have just picked up a really clean 1990 1.8 cab with the dreaded 2E2 carb.
I have a MK2 GTI 4 door thats past it…how easy is it to put the injection on the cab? what will need changing ? head or just the inlet manifold.
Fuel lines, fuel pump ect….
Really need some detailed info befor I start..
Cheers

Forget about converting carb to injection, you have only a fraction of the parts starting from a Mk2 Golf for a start, and once you've done it you'll have spent more than the price difference between a Clipper and GTI; and have a non-genuine modified car.

The car is doing about 15 MPG…running very badly until you boot it..runs on for a week when you switch it off…
Ive done all the usual 2E2 things but still wont tick over under 1500rmp..
Ive even by passed the waxstat and bolted a cover on over the plunger to shut it off..Ticks over around 1200rpm but not much better.
Im going to put it up for sale soon because its really starting to p**s me off.."all my bad memorys are rushing back" and buy a Ford Escort.."Only Joking"
Anyone got a Weber for sale….?
Help me please….!!!!!!!!!!!!

She was over running, had poor running, idling anywhere between 1500 to 2000 etc.
After some sound advice from RubJonney and the 2e2 faq I decided to take off the inlet manifold and change the 0 ring. Daunting task but actually not too bad, just some fiddly bolts. My O ring was actually not too bad but I found there was a blockage in the coolant flow around the manifold. Took to a local engineers who blasted some crap out of it, put it all back together and now she runs fine! (some little issues which I have got around to fine tuning but so so so much better).
The O ring and gasket to do the job cost about a fiver plus postage so if you got the tools the job will take about 1 hour and only cost you a tenner.
It COULD be that. Sounds like a common problem; could also be a blockage somewhere else in the coolant flow so maybe worth doing a rad flush.
That being said, I am investigated the possibility of converting my carb to injection; car doesn't like cold weather, and I'm intrigued by the increase in perfomance and possible economy…..

I think if you consider the effort, time, and money in changing to a weber, you could just get your 2e2 working for less. Like I say, mine had a problem, fixed it, and now I'm dead happy with it; just needs fine tuning but otherwise fine.
But I have heard it said that webers are slight more economic. That could swing it.
