'82 GTi Major Resto + 16v conversion

This is the project car that I purchased in February 2011 which goes by the name of a 1982 Mk1 Golf GTi in silver. Needs a lot of work, but i'm sure it will be worth it. Less talking more pics…..

Just got these pics from pistonheads for now, let me know what you think! :)

The pics below are the current state its in and a few months of research and parts hoarding. It had a 1.8 8v in, which was beyond saving so the conversion was on the cards right away. I'll let the pics do the talking so you can all realise how lucky you are…:D

First up is the car in its current shape. Needs a lot of welding and painting, but will get there in the end.

These pics show the worst of the rust on the inner wings, but have the repair panels on standby.

Just starting the engine bay prep having just removed the knackered 1800 8v lump.

Then goes in the 2.0 16v lump from a passat, just need to find a flywheel and the box is ready to go on. Going to use the mk1 1.6 8v 'box due to the better ratios for acceleration.

Four branch conversion fanimold

Then i will move onto the interior and set about fitting these….S3 Recaros, my fav seat ever lol :D

Any comments will be appreciated as i could do with the motivation!

Cheers, James.

Thanks again Chris, its a shame it is a 1982 as the plastic inner archs were introduced in '83…..never mind!

Forgot to say about the history of the car. I have a folder that is around 2.5 inchs think, which was one of the reasons i bought it. It has been a local car to me for a while and the funny story is it used to have a private plate on it at some point which was very unique (X123 CAR) and i was driving through the small village that is only a mile away from me and saw this number plate on a Mk4 Golf. When i caught up with the driver i asked him if he had ever owned a Mk1 Golf and he happened to be the owner of this exact car for a very long time. It had been stood in a field (fatal) for around 3 or 4 years, before he sold it to a guy quite a way away and then it ended back here again! Sorry to bore you all to death, but was well chuffed!! :D

My god, not too bad then, although as you say in your thread, at least it was on concrete!
