'82 GL project

despite still having loads to do on my mk2 i now have the added distraction of a mk1 project car!

The mk1 has been sat on a workmates drive neglected for the past few years and i had been nagging him to do something with it or i would come and tow it away and he finally gave in and offered it to me at a price that was far too good to refuse!

Even though its been off the road for approx 2-3 yrs we put a battery on and she fired straight up!

first job was a damn good clean as several years worth of grime and moss on it and the interior was full of cobwebs:

really pleased with it and looking forward to getting it back on the road! quite a few bits i want to change to make it a bit more "mine" and give it a cleaner/simpler look as its got quite a bit going on at the moment with all the stickers and other bits stuck on!

not a huge fan of the beaded seat covers so took them out along with the nasty rubber mats:

Andy wanted his bike back but snapped the key in the D lock trying to get it off, had to take the roof rack to bits to get it off:

some of the bad bits i have found so far…

the inner wings are shot on both sides:

passenger wing is fairly rotten:

couple of holes in the spare wheel well:

hole by the rear suspension turret:

started stripping it down to get a better look at what im dealing with:

theres a fair bit of rust and a few holes there! I've not really had a restoration project like this before as all my previous (and current) cars have been completely solid and fairly rust free and i want to do as much as possible myself so any feedback, comments or advice will be gladly welcomed  :)

some more pics:

my little boy is already a dubber, he loves helping whenever i do anything on the cars

erm…yeah, this is held together with gaffer tape

im one short of a full spare set of G60 steels….perhaps an alternative to the p-splots…

while they were off, offered the wheels up to my mk2 for a laugh (but actually quite like it   )

Quite a lot to do  8O

im sad to say it may be a bit too much work  :(

attacked the car with a screw driver today and the rot is a lot worse that first feared…as well as what is pictured, both rear arches are made of filler and not much else, both sills need work and the passenger side front floor has been ruined by someone jacking it up on the floor and is rotten too.

i HATE to admit defeat but with a family and my mk2 project the mk1 may just need a bit too much work so at the moment, i am feeling a bit demotivated and think i may end up breaking the car. Its a real shame as its such a fun car and great fun too drive but i have to get my priorities right.  :(

Am open to offers on any parts required before i make up my mind and make a proper for sale/breaking thread…

I love the look of this and the style its been done in!

Really hope you dont have to break/sell it but if you really have to then id be interested in the fuel cap, p-slots, headlights and maybe a few other little bits.

Cheers, Josh :)
