What tyre?

Post

Yehello.

Got my hands on some old beat up BBS's they are 7jx15 ET24.
They got some ok tyres on them but to small I think (165/50 R15).
I want my speedo to work and I like comfort too much (me old) so I am looking for something a little bigger.
I am not very good with tyre specs, and find that it's a jungle out there!
I like tyrestretch, just not so much on my car.
I was thinking 175/55 R15, it would make my speedo work correctly at least.

Found some Pirelli's, they had low tyre noise and is all over scoring pretty good at mytyres.com.

Is there anything I need too consider when it comes to the wheel ET and the slight stretch that I would get, I mean can all Tyres handle a stretch?

I know there is very different opinions on this out there on the wheels/tyres front
but considering what I'm looking for I just wonder what you guys think.
It's hard to picture what it will look like on my MK1, need guidance.
(Anyone happend to have pics of a MK1 with these wheel and tyre dimension btw 7x15 ET24 with 175/55, it would be great to check out?

Thanks

Sorry can't embed the picture with this browser.

If you want a bit more stretch then nankang ns2 are the brand of choice and will come up narrower than the below even for the exact same specs.

You offset is fairly low so you really don't want to be going wider than 175 unless you've rolled the arches.

Thanks.

Both cool cars, that yellow one looks super sweet,
just the right height aswell imo.
I'm gonna have to lower mine I guess, I think there's some lower springs on it but thats not gonna cut the mustard.

So looks like 175/55 15 could be the right choice for me since I don't want to roll the arches.
I guess it does not matter what tyre make I choose then?

Nankangs come up  narrower than anything else for the same spec. They also stretch easily.

Just had the same predicament. Had 165/50/15 bridgestones on a 7x15 wheel and they looked out of place on the car. I went for 175/50/15. Hard to get a performance tyre in this size as the are usually economy or for people carriers.

Sry was knocked out by the flu, let me tell you… it was hell!!  :(

Thanks for posting those images shepp,
I think that 50 profile looks better on 15" than 55.
Hmm, I wonder if I go for 175/50/15 how big the wheel and arch gap would be…

How much is your car lowered shepp?
Just trying to figure out how mine will look. :D

(refurbishing my E30's atm.)

No worries! Mine is on coilovers so not sure how low. I could measure how far it is from the floor? I avoid speed bumps at all costs so it is low and I haven't run the car yet so unsure with et30 how I will get on, should know within the next few weeks.

I just wanted to give this thread closure in case it's usefull to someone else.

So in the end I went with Bridgestone Turanza ER 300 175/55 R15 77H MO
on my BBS alloy's 7jx15 ET24.
This is how it looks on my car with only lowered springs (no coilovers).

Thanks.

Ok having difficulties posting images, hang in there…
