Hi,
I'm doing a conversion (brakes and engine) from a Golf mk2 GTI 16v on my -87 cabrio but I'm missing the front brake caliper carriers (for 256mm discs). I have heard that one can get the carriers from an Audi and want to ask if any of you know what model and where to buy them?

early square shape audi 80, or scirocco 16v. either way, not so easy to find.

Brake conversion to mk2 GTI
I was out working on my car today, prepping it for a respray and noticed that my stock front brake caliper looks identical to the mk2 GTI 16v (from a -89) caliper which makes me confused. I have a - 87 cabriolet with the 95hp engine, where they delivered with the same front brake caliper as the mk2 GTI?

mk1 1.5-1.8 use the same 'VWII' type calipers as found on the mk2 1.6-1.8 8v and 1`6v up to around 1988. later 16v use a different caliper 'girling 54'.
You can easily tell which you have, it'll either have 'VWII' or '54' cast into the caliper

yeah the VWII calipers take vented 239mm brakes, Girling 54 gives you 256mm brakes. but you need scirocoo 16v/old audi 80 carriers which are a bit tricky to find
