I was going to say round ones with air!  :P

But seriously that's a tuffy because all tyres cheap or expensive can behave differently.
It just depends on so much.
The rims, size of the rims, off set, tread pattern, your driving style, best in the wet, best in the dry, for cornering and so on….

If you want the best they you pay for the best.
Michelin, Pirelle but.

I bought a set of BBS Sportline wheels last year that came with a set of Dunlop Speed (something) can't remember exactly, my car is in storage right now.
Not had that make on any car for two decades or more but my word for normal to quick driving (wet or dry) they are a very fine set of boots!
About 50 quid a piece!

My other wheels have a set of tyres (Alessi sport rims from Italy) from a French company I'd never heard of and they do stick like shi_t to a blanket but my word do they make the steering heavy.
Who remembers driving a Series 3A Safari Landrover LWB and parking one before PAS.
Well that's the feeling you get from this combo.
Need to use two hands and at least one foot!

So it's a personal thing!

Thats a size I'm not used to, 1978 Mk1 Scirocco = 175/70/13 T and Mk1 golf Gti = 185/60/14 H.
All I'll say is get the best you can afford and with the new tyre lables you get don't go for the best fuel economy ones as they are usally rock hard and no good for grip.

CLs came with 155 R13. The GTi is 175/70 R13 (for 13" wheels)

The advantage of having relatively old fashioned sized tyres is that even with top brand names like Continental or Pirelli you should be able to get 4 fitted for less than £200. About what one new BMW run flat costs, or two stoopidly low profile tyres that my daily Fester diesel uses.

1987 Alpine White 1.8 Clipper Cabriolet

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.
