Suspension upgrade?

Post

Which to go for

I have a 92 rivage currently running on standard shocks and eibach -35mm springs. The ride has always been pretty awful but I think my shocks have had it so contemplating a suspension upgrade.
What is a good kit to be looking at that's simple to fit and good value for money and where is good to buy them from?
I love the ride height I'm at now and don't want to go back any higher.
I'm running standard 15" le castellets with 185/55 tyres but will be changing these to 195/50 in the near future.
Any help or pointing in the right direction appreciated 👍

Did you fit shorter bump stops when you changed the springs?

Lowering the springs and not changing the bumps stops for shorter ones will mean the car is either driving on the bump stops or when you hit a bump you are hitting the bump stops and that could be why you have a terrible ride?

How much do you want to spend?

Kit Iike this I fitted to my Mk1 Scirocco and been happy with the ride, I'm getting old and do not want a hard ride or even worse bump steer!

Hi Mark thanks for the reply,

Good point did not know that seen as I only handed the springs over to get fitted I can't see the bump stops being changed 😓
So does that mean the spring compresses and the bump stops pushes everything together? Is that what ppl refer to as bottoming out?

That kit looks great and good price did you order off eBay too?

They are only about 10 miles from where I live, I collected the parts from them directly.

I'm going to get the kit for my cabriolet when money allows, hopefully in the near future.

Very helpful company and they have been involed in VWs for years so know there stuff, I recommend the company.

Info etc is in my signature, if you edit your profile/signature you can add the same sort of information so you don’t have to write it each time you need help/information.
Saves a bit of typing.

Thanks, I've had both cars for a long time, the Golf is my daily drive, it lives outside and used all year round. Can't see any point in changing it for a newer modern car as most are just a little dull and they keep going wrong with all these computers and sensors they fit nowadays.

Mk1 golfs, easy to work on, cheap to run and touch wood… it's never left me stranded on the side of road in the 230,000 miles I've driven it.

It was made when VW adverts used to say "If only everything in life was as reliable as a VW" don't think it applies to modern VWs..

Wow that is amazing. That's not just a car to you anymore really is it?
My golf was a daily drive for 5 years it's had it's problems but nothing that wasn't sortable as you say easy to work on I love getting under the hood and I'm a massive novice.
I look under the hood of my wife's Audi A3 S-line and I daren't even fill the window washer haha.
Luckily enuf I have a garage where the golf lives altho the missis keeps hinting for the space. Taking it for its first MOT in 8 years in afew weeks 😬
Never failed on me like you say well built each MOT tester so far has commented on it

Well I will say that my 30+ years of driving MK1's diesel/gas, the Diesel was the easiest to maintain.

The Cabby's well they needed attention for the emissions, and most the common parts have been replaced or upgraded… I enjoy the Drive when I am in them, and I don't drive like a grandma.

I have a newer 2003 car, and it is computer this and that, and what they call a BCM (body control module) to unlock doors, and open doors, as well as it does 30 different things as well…. and don't get me started on ODB2 and code readers….

The Diesel bunny always reminded me of my MG's very simple… easy to diagnose and repair…

VW's Badge of honor is the amount of blood that you spilled when knuckles are scrapped or arm scratched, and the amount of stitches taken or Butterflies to close
wounds…..

badge of Honor with Stitch Cluster.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
