Speedo cable help

How do you remove it from gearbox?

Hi guys,

I apologise if this has been asked before, I searched but couldn't find an answer.

im trying to replace my speedo cable, at the gearbox end I have undone the star bolt and removed the little metal plate but the cable doesn't seem to be the slightest bit loose to be able to pull it put, I'm reluctant to pull any harder as I don't want to lose he drive gear in the gearbox. Am I missing something?

its a clipper cabrio if it makes a difference

thanks!

Don't worry, I was being a norbert, it just pulls out…

Be careful when you do. pull it out gently,  keeping it straight.   If snags don't force it. …There is a plastic drive gear on the end of the cable,  which can drop off into the gearbox

Mk1 2l TSR G60.  .getting. There twice as fast

Mk1 lhd diesel…….getting. There for half the cost

Make sure the circlip is in place before you attach the cog to the cable

Sorry for a slight thread hi-jack but my speedo currently doesn't work (like this when purchased a few weeks ago). Is it the little plastic drive gear that fails on these rather than the whole cable?

Thanks

I've had both ends of the cable fail. You can check where by twisting something in the back of he speedo to check the clocks work, also check the interior end of cable by jacking up front then spinning wheels to see if the metal end of cable spins. If it doesn't then it's gearbox end.

In my case the failure was all my own, I rushed refitting my rebuilt head and clamped the cable between the block and head, ended the life of the cable and the head!

how does the little circlip come off?
