Seam welding wishbones

Post

As title says has anyone done this and what's the pros and cons? I've got a spare set and would like to do it but if I'm not going to gain anything then I'll leave them as is!

Pros: Stops the wishbones flexing tightening up the steering.
Cons: If you smack a curb or pot hole hard enough your chassis will flex before the wishbone does.

I wasn't thinking continuous weld on the seam, I was thinking 25mm weld and 25mm gap repeated around it. Would this not still give the room for some flex?

It's nesaccery for stiffness. MK2 Golfs and Corrados have the Wishbones welded in gapped seams as above from the factory. Pressed Wishbones will flex. Chubnut offers pre-welded Wishbones for the MK1 Golf.

Personally, if I was going to fit coilovers, ARB's and new bushes all around, not welding the Wishbones would then be the weak link.

I'd do it. Just don't go snacking curbs.

I've run a tarmac mk1 rally car, sprint mk1,  rallycross mk1 and autocross mk1 over the years (still do..) and my mk1 arms arent welded, all with solid bushes of various shore ratings.
