probably an ACD code, which is the same as mk2 golf GTI pre-90. 90 onwards mk2 golf GTI box will also fit, but have a slightly taller 2nd gear.  MK2 16v box will fit but you'll need to fit a 16v clutch kit, 1-4 ratios same but 5th a bit shorter so higher revs when cruising in 5th.

post-84 mk1 cabrio and scirocco gti boxes fit as well obviously, tintop gti could be used too but will have 90mm driveshaft flanges so will either need to swap flanges (need to get 2x green flange seal carriers) or fit 90mm driveshafts

my gearbox has died on my daily '82 tintop gti 1.8 8v, does the above info count for mine too? When taking the box out I was told its an 020 box??

Any help or boxes for sale will be massively appreciated

no yours will have a different code, possibly 9a? It'll have 90mm flanges, so you'll be wanting mk1 golf gti boxes and pre-84 cab/rocco for a straight swap. later box with 100mm flanges will fit with post-84 cab/rocco 100mm driveshafts, or swap 90mm flanges over into them

for any 020 box 1st thing to check is that it has the mk1 mountings on it, as some dont:
020Mount
